20 or 22s? What are the downsides

I am lookig at getting some 20 inch wheels but I got to know, what are the downsides?

    Loss of Performace?
    How much braking loss?
    Is the ride any rougher?

But I know the ladies love them

yes, they add nothing to your vehicle except looks / style... depeneding on what you get anyhow...

cause most of the dubs i see on these LX's are ghettofabulous... :-(

you will lose acceleration, and braking capacities, but handling may increase a bit if you opt for a wider footprint...

and the ride quality will degrade as well, as you will have to run a much smaller sidewall...

I see no downside to 20s or 22s. They are sweet no matter how ya look at it.
I have 20s all the way around on both magnums right now and will go with 22s in the back later on.
The ride is more than fine. Smoothest car I've ever ridden in.
You'll have no loss in performance or braking and you'll lose no ride until ya go with 22s and have to go with itty bitty tires. Even then, it aint a suspension thang... it's a pothole thang. Dinging rims is easy with low pro tires. Understanding how to drive a car that is lowered and/or with low pro tires is just part of doing it.

Not if you go with a forged solution. I am only 2lbs over the stock wheels and I do have better handling thanks to the lower side wall which leads to less flex and holds the line better.

i agree that going with a forged wheel will decrease some of the losses inherent to a larger wheel... becuase of the weight savings over a cast counterpart...

but you are still losing acceleration and braking... anyone that says otherwise is just foolish...

you state you added 2 pounds over stock...? does that include the weight of the tires...?

that's alot of extra rotational inertia you have going there... so you will lose braking and acceleration...

your wheels look spectacular though... probably the best wheels of anyone on the site... BY FAR... I'm seriously considering them for myself... were you ever able to get some more close up pics of the wheels...?

Way to back peddle. Dubs are now in your future. Post a pic of your car before and after the dubs. Even though you have only had it for a week is no reason not to post a pic.
PS: Whether you would like to admit it or not, "ghetto" or even "ghettofabulous" is a racist term. Try using that term in what YOU perceive as the "ghetto" and let me know how it turns out. I guess that's why you NEED the performance mods.

I was so sweatin putting 20's on my Mag...then I drove it with the 20's...difference was night and day. Handling was greatly improved and the ride was still as smooth as ever. I did put the oe rims and tires back on once just to drive it and feel the difference after a while, the car drove like a pig. The difference is in the reduced sidewall height. Acceleration and braking are reduced...but I don't feel the difference either way, that's what really matters

not sure what your hard on is for me, but you should probably give it a rest... set your sights on an easier target...

but to reply to your incessant whining...

"ghetto and ghettofabulous" and not racist terms... take your head out of your ass... i grew up in what i would call the "ghetto" of my city... nothing like what you would find in larger cities, but low income nontheless...

i never said i didn't like 20's... i stated i was not a fan of 22's... recheck your research, thanks...!

i'll post pics when i'm damn good and ready... why are you so interested in seeing my car...?

Nice terminology. I just don't like hippocrites like yourself that's all. As I recall, your negative comments (at least some of them) were about Magnums with at least 20" rims.
I see people everyday who get offended by the term "ghetto", "ghettofabulous" is just assinine.
You can insult almost everyones pictures on this forum but refuse to post pics of your unique ride. I personally can't wait to see it.
I also suggest that you PM me if you want to take your WHINING any further.
There are nice ways to disagree with peoples cars but you only know the harsh ways. Keep up the good negative work.

You seem to me to be a little too easily excited when someone pokes back in response to your pokes. May I suggest that you reread some of your posts and ask yourself "How would someone else interpret this"

There is a larger world out there beyond the city that you grew up in. Some of the terms and the tone of some of your posts are considered more aggressive than necessary for somone who is asking for help or attempting to provide information.

i don't get excited at all... i just like to spark debate...

if someone can't handle it, they probably shouldn't get involved in the mix...

i may come across as "abrasive" or "harsh", but it's just becuause i don't speak in circles... if i think something looks like ****, i'm just gonna say it, and not sugar coat it...

this is the problem... when someone does something to their car that looks like ****, people don't call them on it, but they laugh at it behind the guys back...

    which is worse...?

Here's just one of your gems in a thread about shaker hoods.

Oh, and don't worry about posting pics of your other rides, I already know what a Honda Pilot looks like. Thanks.
