    07 SRT8 Review and Observations..and 1st Kill!!

WOW... that about sums up the whole experience. I took delivery Monday in Augusta, KS and made the 850 mile trip home. It went great (except for the rain). Perfect time to break it in and really get a feel for the car. Got home without any problems or fast driving awards!

Got home and washed it up real good and cleaned the wheels! The car sat in the garage all week due to rain and last night i got it out for a night on the town. The car is amazing, power wherever is needed. Me coming from a gas burning 2500HD 4x4 Chevy truck, the extra power is greatly appreciated! The interior is excellent, as you guys already know. I'm still in disbelief that it's sitting in MY garage. I have noticed that when taking off from a light, i seem to rest my hand on the gear selector; well, when i roll out from the light then hit the go pedal, the RPMs go up but doesn't shift when i level out..wtf? So after a couple more times i caught myself. I would 'hold on' to the gear selector (unknowingly) hard enough while accelerating to put in autostick 1st gear. Problem solved... lol :arms:

Ground Clearance... YIKES.. it's low.. again, coming from my 4x4 pickup where parking is as easy as pulling up till you spill your drink down your shirt cause you just hit the parking curb with your tires. I've learned that if i pull up to where i think i'm still out in the road... i'm usually not. I park sideways in most anyway but have come close to the lower valance a couple times already.

Tint, the windows HAD to be tinted. No way around it. I have had 5% on my truck for many years and going from that to NO tint absolutely wasn't going to work. This morning i went and my guy tint the windows 5%.. what else is there right?

Brake Dust, Squeeling, Scoring: Dust is to a minimum i feel. After seeing some of the pics of the factory pads on the pre-07 model cars, i was a bit worried and almost ordered a set of pads from Dave before i even got the car. The dust on the new pads/rotors isn't too bad i don't think. The pics below have about 200 miles of spirited driving on them. Nothing to extreme i don't think. No squeeling or scoring to be heard/seen yet. I will bed them in next week.

0-60 Timer: Freakin Awesome feature. I've got down to a 4.96sec run so far (3 runs) and still had some wheel spin.

The Kicker Surround and VES is still being worked out. Per this thread http://www.300cforums.com/forums/mem...reme-srt8.html it seems to be acting/doing weird things. It may be normal, but i don't know. I can't find a rear VES manual, or a way to access VES Sound options or controls.

The dealer through the front lisence plate bracket into the trunk and i haven't taken it out yet. Every time i open the truck and see that bracket, i cringe just thinking about holes in my front bumper..

Below are just some more pics i snapped after a brief hose down of the wheels and the tint this morning!

I got to say thanks to all you guys on these forums that have kept me going for over a year till i could get this car. I've wanted this car since Oct. 05 when Muscle Machines did a comparison between this car and the CTS-V. I've been in love with the car ever since!! Like i said before, i still can't believe that THIS car is in MY garage.... So much to do now!!

    Thanks guys,
    Jones

    EDIT:

The KILL: My boys' wifes' Impala SS. Sad to see it go down, but it's taken out my truck numberous times, so i didn't feel too bad. First we were just cruising down a 6 lane (3 each way) hwy with some traffic lights and stuff. It was late so there wasn't much traffic. We caught a red light, me on the far right, him on the far left. I had 3 passengers, he had 2 passengers. We took off and i wasn't sure he was going to do anything. He's got the factory exhaust still so there is no hearing it from 2 lanes over. All of a sudden i see it start to move with some force. I smash the go pedal and fly by him pretty bad (i seriously had to ask him when we stopped if he was all in it or just playin with me) We probably started around 40 and i let out about 80. We hit the interstate a few miles later and he's infront. We are stuck behind this one guy holding up traffic. he moves over and Kevin punches it, i hesitate, then hit it from about a 65 roll. He moves over and i pass him at about 110 and let out about 140mph. Great runs and very exciting to say the least.

    Sweet! :D

BTW: The plate holder doesn't need to be screwed in, it just clips onto the grille, but don't bother with that unless a cop hassles you

    Hi EXTREME!!

I really enjoyed your message AND all of those great photos. I especially liked the 'SRT8 ON THE BEACH' photo.

    That all said....

I was staring at that 'missing' chrome trim piece your car has just below the driver's side door and wondering.... are you sure that's not just a protective shipping cap [or something] and that the chrome is UNDER that cap?! It doesn't actually LOOK like something is actually missing. It just looks like somethings hidden.

    Just a wild thought.

Putting a front plate on a car that hot would be a shame! I'm thinking black out the rear chrome strips anyway, would add to the nasty, mean factor.
