Question 05 Magnum R/T AWD shudder, in the shop

Took my '05 Mag R/T AWD in today for a low speed shudder issue. It only does it when first started or left out for a few hours. It happens while making slow turns or backing out of the driveway. After about 5 min. of driving, it goes away. Car has about 8,500 miles on it.

I pulled TSB 21-019-05 REV. A that speaks to a Planetary Assembly Cap replacement. The SA is having the senior trans. tech looking at it tomorrow. Does this sound like I am barking up the right tree?

BTW, while up on the rack, the tech noticed a problem with the steering rack (also a TSB, says he), ordered a new one, and will replace tomorrow.

Can the Gurus weigh in on this one and should I be concerned about any other related stuff?

    THX in advance.

Not sure about the rack, but it sounds like you've got the AWD binding issue nailed...

I have not heard of a TSB pertaining to the steering rack. See if you can get the TSB# (or better yet a copy).

I had the TSB done for the low speed turn shudder. No concerns since. I was told that factory advisors rate the shudder as an annoyance, as it doesn't damage other parts.

The steering rack is not a commonly reported problem, so tell us what you learn.

TSB 21-019-05A has been superceded by TSB 21-011-06. the friction disc is removed and the planetary assembly cap is replaced. once this TSB is performed, transfer case will never shudder again.

AFAIK, there is no TSB that rquires replacing the steering rack.

    Thanks all,

    The Funkster has spoken, THX!!

I will print this and show to the techs.

I can't believe what a great source of info this forum is, a true enabler in allowing the service organization and the customer to work together!!

The service staff at Mount Clemens Dodge have shown me they are reasonable and will go the extra mile to satisfy the customer. They used the info you all provided to fix my last problem successfully.

    Stay tuned!!

    Hello all,

Here's an update. The Mag goes in Monday for what I hope are the last new car tweaks.

Thanks to you all and the Funkster, the SM agreed on the transfer case TSB and parts will be in on Monday to do the fix.

While it's in, they are going to replace my lower window moldings under warranty. They are discoloring and they agreed to put the DUB chromies on for just the cost of the parts.......cool!!

The factory UConnect comes in Monday from MSC and James at 22elite has a leather padded console cover on the way. This should be it for awhile (well, maybe some smoked LED tails could be nice!).

I will post when repairs are complete.

    Cheers!!

yes, this TSB involves V6 vehicles as well.

    TSB 21-11-06

    SUBJECT:
    Transfer Case Shudder
    OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the planetary assembly cap and changing the transfer case
    oil.
    MODELS:
    2005 - 2006 LX/LE 300/Magnum
NOTE: This bulletin applies to LX and LE all wheel drive (AWD) vehicles equipped
with a NAG1 transmission (sales code DGJ) built before September 15, 2005
    (MDH 0915XX).
    SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle may experience shudder on slow, parking lot type turns. The friction disc in the
transfer case can become clogged with iron particles and may create a stick-slip condition
with the pressure plate inside the transfer case.
    DIAGNOSIS:
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the
    Repair Procedure.
