    %@#$!! Got popped for tint!!

Crap!! It finally happened. On my way back to the office from lunch and I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop. I thought he was stopping me for speeding cause I just went flying around a slowpoke in the left lane. He comes up to the window to tell me that any tint on the front windows is illegal. (yeah, yeah, I know) and that my tinted tail lights are illegal too. (What?!?!) I talked him out of the tail light infraction cause I told him that's the way they came but he still wrote me up for the windows. This sucks. <end of rant>

Your windshield is a definite No No. Different jurisdictions have different regs on tint percentage, so no telling if you're safe at 20% or not. You wouldn't be here in Oregon.

I'm not aware of any state that will allow windshiled tinting, unless you can show medical necessity.

I have 35% all around, nothing on the windshield. It's not that dark and up until today, I haven't had any problems and I drive past cops all the time. Unfortunately, here in California, we are going through a period of enhanced enforcement regarding vehicle mods. This is mainly to keep street racers off the public streets. (If you saw the news footage a few weeks back when the state crushed a few seized ricers in front of their owners, it started then) This cop seemed to be out looking for fix-it infractions.

    35%???
    That is legal in Washington...

It doesn't even look that dark in your sig pic.

    California must be very strict.

VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION TO ALLOW YOU TO KEEP THE TINT ON!

Simply roll all windows down when they pull you over. They cannot ask/bother you about it if it is down when you are pulled over. I do it all the time/everytime I get pulled over, albeit 2 times in the last year. It is perfectly legal and I will never leave them up, even if it is -50 degrees. Save yourself the pain of removing/worrying and put all the windows down when you get shanked. Don't give them something else to look for. I matched my fronts to the rears.

They made me roll mine up slightly so he could show me why he was writing me up... They were already rolled down for the stop, which was exclusively because of the tint.

Tinting the front windows at all in Illinois is illegal. It's an equipment violation though, so as long as you pay it, it has no effect on your license.

That sucks man... 35% really isn't all that dark either. I wanted to go 20% but I figured I'd have less problems w/ 35%.
