The Great Western LX Shoot-Out! Let's REALLY plan something

We've(SoCal) talked a lot about the next meet. Possibly at the drags in Fontana. Possibly in Vegas. Well the drags are done for the winter season. So here is what I am proposing:

The next Midnight Mayhem(Drags) at Las Vegas Motorspeedway is on Friday, February 25th. How about we plan to head out there Friday morning and come back Sunday. Feedback FROM the Vegas folks about Midnight Mayhem would be good.

Hopefully, this should give everyone enough advance notice for planning.

Any takers??? Anyone willing to make the drive to Vegas is welcome.

    Why restrict it?

Call it: "The Great Western LX Shoot-Out & Party!!!" (or something to that affect...)

I know that I would certainly like to make it...

I'm glad to see we're getting some interest. 8)

ID, I definitely don't want to restrict it. Anyone willing to make the drive is more than welcome. With these cars, getting there is half the fun! :D

Godwin, where did you go? I just did my second trip to Vegas last weekend. MPG was 21 on the tank of gas there. That included some city driving around Vegas and on the way there let's just say I was HAVING fun.

IDSmoker you sound like a politician there buddy:

"I know that I would certainly like to make it..." Same as I will definitely probably make it?

    Where are u located?

G2V, I like the idea of a western get together even more than just Cali and Nev.

Okay as for hotels, if you really don't care about staying on the strip I highly recommend either the Candlewood Suites on Paradise or Tuscany Suites on Flamingo(Next to Bally's).

    Just checked Travelocity.

    Tuscany - $109 for 2 double beds. $115 for 1 king bed.

Candlewood - $159 (Not that great of a price)

Major Strip Hotels are around $200 and up. Bally's is $159 and is a nice hotel. Right across the street FROM the Bellagio.

Is your suggestion of the two hotels based on price or any other consideration?

I normally stay at Las Vegas Hilton. I want as big a parking space as possible so that my RT does not get door dinged.

Get enough people interested and then call the hotel for a GROUP discount. I have set up a few of these for a business I was in and the discounts can be pretty substantial depending on the number of rooms reserved. Wish I was closer I would definitely come.

Mainly price and proximity to the Strip, but the Candlewood is kind of high for that weekend. The Hilton is decent too.

MagnumFreak, that is what I plan to do once we get some firm commitment. Why don't you fly out and hang with us? I know it's not the same without your Magnum, but it would still be fun.

No doubt on this one, I say we pool a bit of airline cash, or I will donate some of my American miles to meet one of the Moderators of this site, I quit the other ones!
Magfreak can run my RT as hard as he wants, this is funny after alarming our local Cuc.Red and Djmcee, what you guys don't rip and slide once in awhile??.
I have learned a lot FROM this site, where does Magfreak live??

    Hey Mark,

Glad to see you more active on these boards and glad you could hook up with some of the guys. Everyone I've met so far is really cool. Vegas should be a blast.

This forum has been great, not only met some of the guys, but djemcee lives less than a 6 iron FROM my front lawn. He installed my new T Rex grille last Thurs. Would we actually get to make some runs on that Friday night?? I may bring my family along, but maybe want to have some REAL fun and leave them home!
I hope we can get a bunch of Magnum folks to go!

Nah... I'm just wondering what the roads in Southern Idaho will be like in February, after all, I only got the RWD! <grin>

Seriously though, between dealing with insurance companies and lawyers while waiting for a settlement FROM an accident (not to mention recovering FROM the injuries themselves), and working in the tech industry, while watching the jobs all around me move overseas, the future has become much more mutable than I am comfortable with (and now it looks like these job conditions are going to continue for at least another 4 years, if I manage to last that long).

Bottom line: I don't make definite plans more than 2 weeks out these days.
