Just got my AWD RT...I'm also an old school Magnum owner

Subject says it all. I picked up my new RT AWD today. Build date is in September so it's gotta be one of the first AWD's I'm guessing. Bought it off the lot so I didn't have much say in options but it did have what I wanted and then some.

I also own a 1978 Dodge Magnum XE. Now I'll bet most of ya think the 'Magnum' moniker is new to your station wagon, well it isn't ! The 78 Magnum is based on the Chryco 'B-body' platform which is the same platform that the Charger and Monaco (amongst others) were built on. Mine has a 360 cube engine and a 3 speed auto. and is also black with a whopping 180HP (this is debatable I see different ratings depending on where I look) and the car has 36000 miles on it so it's pretty pristine. Compared to the RT it's slow as dirt regardless. I'll bet I'm one of the only dorks with both models

Anyway, the new one is actually my wife's car and I gotta say that the thing goes like a raped ape! That motor is smooth as silk. No burnouts, just silly accelleration. The thing flies and can get ya in trouble quick I'm pretty pleased with the turning radius (AWD/FWD commonly have awful turning radii) I'm finding that I want to beat the guy that designed the stereo/nav system with a stick. Stupid moves in terms of usabillity here. I also don't understand the use of the fake aluminum controls that I've seen FROM several manufacturers. To me it looks like 1985 GM lame stuff. I've been racing AWD cars for about 10 years and this AWD system is pretty nice thus far. Let's hope it holds up over time. The planetary gears should do well vs the viscous couplings that I've been breaking for so long. I'm sure most of you guys don't care but I'll get some pics of the two generations together soon. In terms of 'cool' it's debatable at this time as to which is 'cooler' but it sure ain't debatable in terms of which is faster! This is a seriously quick car off the line when you control the gears. I've been far FROM a fan of the autostick thing but the autostick on the 5 speed in the RT is pretty damn impressive! I'm betting off the lot that this is a mid/low 14 second car with traps in the mid 90s. Not sure about 60's...Id bet somewhere around 1.9-2.0 which is great. AWD FROM the line and a V8 FROM the 1/8th is an awful nice combo.

Welcome to the group. I actually thought of buying the old school Magnum just for the fun of it. Yeah, you'll find a bunch of weird people on this forum.
