    WOULD ANYONE CARE TO GUESS 6.1 vs 5.7

    In my quest to pick out a Stroker Kit, which is not easy with so many options, my mechanic says there is no substitute for cubic inches and that makes sense but there is a Big Question about that.

    If that were the case why is phenomenom takeing place that when you take a 5.7 and 6.1 and put basicly the same mods on them (Heads, Cam, Headers, Cai etc.) you get the same performance from each and even in a lot of cases the 5.7 outperforms 6.1's even with the better gears of the 6.1?

    Would anyone like to take a guess at figuring out why this is happening ?

    Horse power curve flatter with the Plastic intake and the 5.7 heads?

    Al, I don't think that is the case. I think your 5.7 times were awesome but if I added Kooks long tubes, 3200 stall converter, etc, I could beat those 5.7 times with my 6.1. I expect to run at least 12.4 with just Tomahawk cam, Hemi shop CNC heads, ported SRT shorty headers, CAI, F1's and Promotion email tune. In fact, I was gonna try to make it out to Dragway 42 Sunday morning but the wife is sick so I gotta watch the kids.

    I think you have a great setup cam/conveter/etc, and I would bet your a pretty good driver too. But with the same basic setup, same driver on the same day, the 5.7 won't hang with the 6.1

    I agree with your mechanic and would go will the most cubes you can afford. If you can afford to do it I would go with a 426. Or I believe the 5.7 strokes to 392? (not sure on that one) Anyway, go for THE CUBES!!

    Can't wait to here what you decide to go with!

    We'll know soon. FRI built me a 381 stroker where the heads are ported 5.7 heads that have been matched up to a 6.1 intake assembly.

    Its a project that started in early August. The motor is in transit as I write this. Hopefully arriving Monday.

    20 or 30 cubic inches won't make much difference. but 200 more would be awesome.

    Will a 5.7 ever reach 525 HP. I don't think so

    Been reading on this board and others about the 5.7 stroked to 370ci. I've read many opinions on the 5.7's potential exceeding the 6.1's. Course these discussions were about "Blow-out" numbers and what was refered to as a "Sweet point." I think this means as much power as possible, for as many runs as possible, before it's new motor time. These discussions involved the limitations of the 6.1 when going for the "Gusto" cylinder boring, shaft-sizing, etc. I've read there's 5.7 based trucks out there running 800-1100HP.

    True, to a point. The car that wins will be the one that gets the most H.P. to the ground, not just to the tires.
