Dual disk clutches are for high horsepower applications, and have been around for quite a while. See an example of one here:

    Hope this helps.

If they were talking about a dual clutch automatic, that means thay the next gear is already pre-selected by the second clutch so shifting will be almost instantaneous.

These guys are fast :-) Yep, it's basically two clutches back-to-back (arranged a little differently).

    Double clutch:

I always thought it was two handfulls of, well, you know; Or Steve McQueen in "Bullet" where the poor stang's clutch-plate is going "what the F*** is this turd doing to my face?" Or what those preceding me said...

'08 viper clutch. challenger will most likely use a similar design.

The clutch is a dual disc design. One disc (1) is independent of the pressure plate, located between the pressure plate and flywheel. The second disc (2) is an internal component located between the pressure plates (3) and can not be serviced separately.

NOTE: If either clutch discs or pressure plate is worn or damaged, the independent disc and pressure plate must be replaced as an assembly.
