So I took apart a certain 5.7 today that developed a nasty little rod knock on #6 cylinder. Pulled the heads to find the stock .028" head gasket and something I was concerned of had actually happened.
Yep .....thats right....the piston kissed the head......this is why we don't run .028" quench on a motor. Rod bearing let the piston come up just enough.

Wow...And for a novice like me...this is caused by super high compression on stock head gaskets?

Ya, noticed that Ben but still don't know enough to be able to tell what happened.
Eric, sorry this happened. Interesting that only cyl #6 was affected. How could the rod bearing allow the piston to impact the head? Was it something that was RPM related? Just curious.

Isn't this nick's motor...
So how did just one piston kiss the head? What was the ptv clearance ? I thought we wanted .050 to be safe so this wouldn't happen etc
