    Volant cat back review

OK, so I got my Volant cat back system delivered yesterday so I decided to run down to the exhaust shop to get it installed. It seemed to go together pretty good, but they were having some trouble getting both tips to line up with the exhaust cut outs in the rear bumper. In fact, after I got home, it seems the passenger side shifted a bit as it's not as centered as it was when I left (I'm so picky, I'll probably try to tweak it over some once it cools down).

Also, they needed to remove the little cross member and add a few washers as the exhaust pipe was so close it surely would have been bumping up against it with every bump in the road. The finish on the system is pretty good, almost show quality and for $549 shipped to my door I certainly can't complain about it at all.

Performance wise, I noticed no difference between it and the brylcreem mod I was running, but the sound is WAY better. It was too loud and had a weird sort of tone to it when you'd nail it, where as the Volant system is much more quiet when idling or cruising, but has just the right amount of sound when you lay into it with a nice deeper tone. One other thing I noticed with the brylcreem mod was that it was real obvious when the MDS would kick in (that sucked), so far I can't really tell with the Volant setup. I haven't had it on the freeway yet, but I've noticed no drone whatsoever, but then again, I didn't with the brylcreem exhaust either.

I'll report back if there are any issues on the highway when I go to work tomorrow, or maybe take a quick trip tonight after rush hour, but I seriously doubt there will be any drone at all. Over all, this is an excellent buy and excellent system for those that want a nice sound with no drone, and something more subtle than say a Flowmaster setup.

If you like it LOUD, this is not for you, if you like a nice tone with a little more sound than stock, get this system, especially for the money, it can't really be beat.

It will get just a little bit louder with time, nothing bad but it gets a nicer tone. What I did when I installed mine is: Before tightening the clamps I put a 1" piece of wood, metal spacer or what ever you have laying around the garage on the crossmember, than I bolted it up. This will keep the exhaust up and give it the proper spacing when you tighten the clamps. After everything is tight all you have to do is remove the spacer you added.

How's the drone on this? I currently have a JBA and hate the vibration. Anyone dyno with this catback? I don't expect to really gain any HP jus don't want to lose anythning. Can you guys put up a sound clip and llist what your other mods are?

This system has ZERO drone. I didn't dyno it, but I certainly don't feel like I lost anything at all, and I'm not sure I gained anything either.

Hmmm, I'll have to figure out how to do a sound clip. I have a camcorder, but I've never downloaded anything from it.

Does anyone know the muffler design? Are they straight through and/or chambered?

Thanks for the link. I am looking for a quieter exhaust with less drone than the JBA
