Viper Ram Hood for Magnums

check again bucko.....hood can be made functional but does not come that way. I know, because ive already called them about it, and i plan on ordering it sometime around January.

I konw, I can read, but it's great they give the option to make it functional (even if it costs more), that's would be pretty sweet with Typhoon intake kit.

Volant is working on converting this hood to a ram air hood. It will mate up to their intake system.

I have seen it in person as they were using my car for the guinea pig. If you are interested in this set up, I will highly suggest that you wait for this combination. It is going to be very nice! 8)

Late December early January. Do the wait Dude. Volant is analy particular about the quality of their components, and anything they are associated with.

So definitely worth the wait.

Looks cool but I think a double scoop look would be better. Not only out of look but the ability to line up the desired connection for the cold air box.

The routing required will mean alot of turns or one big turn.

The most important issue is the location of the scoop. I love the look of scoops and they do provide cool air if insulated properly. but often a scoop that is too aerodynamic will actually be in a dead space.

By taping strings on the stock hood and passing air over the hood you will find the area most scoops are placed on is actually and many times has its own vacuum at high speeds.

No I am not a hater of the scoop and if made I will push it on my store. Volant makes clean product.

Really though the part I said to take my word for it is the part about the hood being functional and mating to the intake system. Remember, I don't work for Volant, never heard of them until this forum.

About the ram air hoods.....

Although I think they look beautiful, most scoops on hoods do little of a Ram Air effect unless they are a few inches off the hood, or if they are at the very front of the car. The Ram Air trans-am has its scoop way up front, and the mini cooper S does too.... And if you notice on the drag strip, the pro stock cars have their scoops lifted off of the hood a few inches.... This is because of the aero-dynamics of the car....

Do this little experiment when you get a chance, throw some water on the hood, and then drive around on the express way, see if any of the drops on the hood move around. If you notice, you could be driving at speeds of 70 mph with the water drops staying still... (if you tend to wax your car, this experiment will probably not work....)

Another experiment.... tape an antenna like structure to a spot on your hood, and then tie on strings at different spots on it, and then drive around..... notice which strings move more, and which tend to just fall down.... Then try this antenna thing experiment at different spots on your hood.... This way you can see which are the best spots for a ram air scoop on your hood....

It gets really really tricky.... I'd say the best spot for a ram air intake would be right at the front grill......

so..... here's my opinion (and sorry for the long lecture) get the ram air hood that's not functional, but that looks the best in your opinion, and then figure out something else for the ram air.....

Oh i'll definately wait, i really liked the looks of their products on their website but geez....now late Dec to early Jan!?!? Here i was all thinking i'd get one in mid December. :(

you are right, but if they made an air intake mated to it, it would be a beautiful thing indeed. And while its not a TRUE ram air, it still lets warm air escape so it stays cooler under the hood.

Is it even gonna make a difference, i mean the car isnt even mass air its speed density, and no matter how much air you cram INTO it its only gonna read what its suppose to. I have know guys that have put anything and everything on there 03 hemi trucks and nothing no big power gains, i man i put the same on my 03 chevy 6.0 and i can run circles around the hemi truck. Dodge should of gone mass air. Now if you spray a speed density car they love it i dont know why but they do, we did some testing on some mustangs. When someone can get past the ECU the skys the limit.

Doesthat mean that gm got it right using the high pressure spot if front of the windshield for thier cowl induction which also nascar uses so the wind tunnel shouldet be wrong althuogh for visual effect nothing beats a forward facing scoop
