Tuning with A/F from each cylinder

I was looking into Innovate for Air Fuel today and they have a system that will measure up to 12 cylinders. I am wondering how this would be done. Would you have to weld a bung in each collector tube? I can see how this level of detail could be beneficial. I am thinking about getting the LC-1, sending the output to my narrow band SRT guage and then merging the data with predator data on the computer when fine tuning. I guess you can use LC-1s in the same way as the 12 cylinder gadget. You get one for each cylinder and monitor each cylinder A/F. If 7 other people want to get together with LC-1s, we could share them around and each get this kind of data.

sounds expensive.....in other words something a shop should try and let us common folk know how it went.

Great idea, but there just isn't enough space for the bungs, let alone the sensors and leads. At least no where I've seen. Don't get me wrong, I'd luv to see it happen.

Maybe a shop could make up a special set of bung heavy headers...

The LC-1 isn't the same thing as the ST-12. However, 8 LC-1s could deliver the kind of data we need with 8 cylinders.

Actually, I think we could get by with 4 of them. Just work on one side at a time.

This is the package we are talking about. Although it would provide you with extremely accurate data, at $2,500.00 its not all that practical.

Well understand that A/F is a OK tool but by averaging all the bank side really isn't the correct way to tune. Actually tuning for individual cylinder EGT is the proper way to tune.

A/F is for dyno where individual cylinder numbers would be impractical to do.

I amuses me that everyone is still thinking they are safe when yet no one has proved to this day how the individual cylinders are running.

This is a very good point. Air fuel by cylinder can be way off. I was told it seemed one of my cylinders was getting hot and detonating when I had my car on the dyno causing knock retard for all cylinders. Turns out I have probably popped a head gasket at cylinder 7. Tuning each cylinder can point out intake air flow issues as well as injector problems which can invoke detonation and thus knock retard. Once you get all cylinders in line, then putting er on the dyno for power makes better sense.

Well since your gona have the head off. Why don't you have the 1/8" NPT bungs welded in. That can be done and the bungs welded to the top of the header primaries where you can access and install the EGT probes and plugs when done.
