    Tried to install 360 air

Got my new RT this week. Love it. I tried to install the 360 air intake the other day and no way it would fit as I expected. The box barely fits and the corner (bottom outside left as you face FROM front of car) hits against a bolt on the head (I think?) of the engine. With some fiddling I got it in place (still a forced fit) but when I installed the filter and tubing, the filter just sort of hangs in the box and can't possibly seat up aginst the inner face of the box because of the angle at which it enters the box --- quite a bit down and away FROM the front of the car relative to the box. So this filter now just loosely fits through the massively oversized hole in the box with this big gap. Also, since the top of the box doesn't appear to come close to sealing against the hood, I ask -- what is the point of the box anyway? The filter might as well be sitting on its own in the engine compartment since its going to be drawing the bulk of its air that way anyway.

I admit that I'm no car mechanic but I'm very handy and I know how to make things work. I'm very disappointed with this design and took it out. I'd rather do some mods to the existing airbox as I've seen others do here. It seems that would be a much better solution for a CAI (although perhaps not as good of an air filter).

Can anyone comment on this experience?[/img]

I had the same problem with the air box fit. Not only did it hit the engine but the right rear corner hit the fender well and the bottom intake tube eas off by about 2 inches. After many emails and about 2 months, the factory sent me the redesigned box that fits the 2005 RT. Apparently you got one of the early kits that only fit the 2004 production RTs

Mine's not fitting that well either. I had to modify and trim that rubber boot (which doesn't look that good in person) to fit on the throttle body. And I had to glue that rubber piece for the IAT sensor. One thing I don't get is that you have to shove the nice looking tube 3 inches INTO the rubber boot! why lose 3 inches of nice looking pipe? but yeah my box doesn't fit at all, it rubs on the head. damnit looks like i got to call them for the updated box?

The only problem is that there were no 2004 RTs.

Still haven't heard FROM highhorsepower about my backordered K&N Typhoon, since the first call early last week to say it was backordered. They are hoping to have these Friday for ship out. I ordered a Magnaflow Cat-back while on the phone too.

Now when are the dynatech's available? 8)

According to Joe Boblett of 360 Airintakez, the 2005 Magnum RTs that came off the assembly line in early 2004 are the ones used for modeling the 360 air filter box. In later production, Dodge apparently changed some of the engine compartment layout and those first 360 Airintakez kits do not fit. 360 has redesigned the air filter box and it now works O.K. I probably should not have referred to the early production Magnums as 2004.

I just called Joe at 360, apparently there were 3 or so boxes that weren't made to the right size. They said they tried to keep them FROM going out, but apparently we got the few that went out. They're sending out a new box right now, should get it in a couple of days.

Before I ORDER a 360 intake kit, is there any way to tell the early production kits FROM the updated ones? The website lists the model number as 100-57PS. Is this the same number as the kits people had problems with?

people...this type of crap happens all the time wtih 360. go on dakota usa and search for all the problems people have with them...sometimes they don't ship all the parts (missing heatshiled, etc), the air hats don't fit properly for the dakotas, the filter doesnt stick to the tube, etc...i have heard so many problems there with 360's intakes that I would never buy one for anything I had. i would stick with K&N and Airaid

Now that I have it installed with the right box, it's ok. I'm don't like the fit of the box, still seems like its rubbing on the fender and the engine. Also it seems as if there are a few wires and the power steering hose is a bit crimped right now too. But it sounds much better than stock.

No matter what I have to keep the stock box, for the smog test (even though thats not going to be for a few years). I think I'm going to still look/wait for a C.A.R.B approved intake.

I don't think theres a way to know which kit they send you, they said they think they got most of the bad fitting ones, but then again, of course they are going to say that.

I live in KA too, C.A.R.B. # doesn't mean s**t to me, when it's inspection time, I always go back to stock, that's what I used to on my 95SS (I had a Ram air intake).

An air intake kit is so easy to install that I wouldn't worry about getting one that's CARB-approved. I'd just swap the stock one in before smog time. That's the only time it really matters.
Now if we were talking a cam change, well.....!! :?
