    Thermostat question

What is the difference between running a 170, 180 or stock 195 thermostat?

It all depends on what temperature you want your engine to run at. From the factory, our cars run at about 210-215 degrees. Why so high? Because a hotter engine pollutes less and makes it easier to pass emissions testing. Most members here want the engine to run cooler, as a cooler engine makes more power. But just changing the thermostat won't help much unless you also do a fan mod.

Most guys using the 170 thermostat runs into error codes set by the computer, yes that nasty old computer wants the engine to run hot.

I use a 180 thermostat along with a fan mod, to keep the engine in the 180-185 temperature range. I get no error codes from the computer.

As for the 195 thermostat, I have no experience with it.

It's all a matter of personal preferance as to what you want.

The rumor of increased engine wear never goes away...in other words one should disregard rumors. There is no increased engine wear as a result of running ~30 degrees cooler.

There are several fan mods available, I use the one from No-ESP - he is a member here. He makes controls for the cooling fan and for ESP function.

Do a search for NO-ESP fan mod.

    Try this link: WWW.NOESP.COM
