    Stop Worrying about Mods

Okay , I just got through looking at MoPar Magazine where they did a header install on a 5.7HEMI powered Ram. They gained 31ft pounds of torque and 20 or so horsepower.
Now a lot of people are out there saying that the HEMI is about as maxxed as it can be in power output. That because of the ECU/FMS, we will not be able to get much more power out of the HEMI naturally aspirated. Those same people say that if we DO try get more mojo FROM our Mo-Po's, that we will nuke our trannies. (transmissions, not ambisexuals for you people out there in Bacon County)
    I say BS! Barbara Streisand!
If a simple exhaust mod gets this then a well designed CAI will add another 7-12. ALSO, never underestimate a genuine motorheads compulsion to do what some milk-lipped pencil-neck with a Doctorate says you CANT do!
I live in Huntsville, Alabama (save the sister action jokes for later, please) and there is a fella here with a 240 HP naturally aspirated Ford Focus. No squeeze, no kidding. If that kind of power increase can be accomplished with that microscopic wheezebox, then we should be able to REALLY make some majic!
There will be aftermarket people that WILL respond to this car's poularity and the hot parts will follow. In the meantime the die-hard power freaks among us will figure this car out too.

    OLD SCHOOL:
A simple blueprint, gasketmatching, port and polish, will easily get another 50-60 horsies out of this trick pony!!
    NEW SKREWL:
Throw in UD Pulleys, an electric water pump, bigger CAT-CON's, fatter injectors, SAFM system, extrude hone, and so on and I dont see why these engines could NOT make 450-500 hp total with bolt-ons WITHOUT adding in the aluminum lung!

This is still a fairly new engine on the market and there is a LOT of interest in it.

I am salivating right now over the possibles!!

    WHAT SAY YE, GENTLEMEN!!?

    That was hilarious.

I'll just point out to you old-school boys that the car is plenty fast, and where it lacks is in the new school disciplines known as stopping and turning.

Are the brakes and suspension really that bad?

I'm sure that supension kits will be one of the first things offered for these cars since lowering seems to be one of the most popular mods with them.

Hopefully, a small DROP (maybe an inch or so) coupled with sportier springs and shocks will make the twisties little straighter.

They're not bad, they're just not as good as the engine is good. I gave up muscle cars for sports sedans years ago....

I, for one, like the ride. I outgrew the need to carve the twisties. Yep, that means I started getting old, can't/won't deny it. I want the ability to take an off/on ramp at some kinda speed as well as the power to do it. BUT, I spend most of my time just driving at or near the speed LIMIT so I want comfort most of all. My $.02

I'm actually in agreement. I just got rid of my canyon carver because it was uncomfortable on long trips. Any mods I do will need to be nearly undetectable when it comes to ride quality. Brakes don't normally effect ride comfort, while handling can be carefully tuned with different tires or maybe a lowering package that doesn't impact ride comfort. I probably wouldn't mind a more aggressive shift program for the tranny, which I hear is a little sluggish.

I've gone the goldilocks approach on ride comfort and I've got a good idea of what's just right, at least for me.

I am in total agreement. Any mods I make won't effect comfort. Exhaust maybe, if I can keep it quiet except under a lot of thottle.

    Cold-Air Intake the same.

    Brakes. Makes sense.

Anti-sway bars. Should be a go.

Tires and wheels?? Need the traction in th e foul weather. I will have to ponder that one.

Lowering is a VERY definite thing! I, myself, am a salty 37 years. I gave up trying to live with the steep compromises of musclecars less than crappy brakes and turning like an oil supertanker.
I also DESPISE these crackerboxes that are so small that is you fart, your CD's go out the window!
I lusk fer the Magnum because it IS larger and it IS more comfortable AND it has a nice chesty motor in it! BUT, there is a part of me deep down that wants to dominate the stoplight dragstrip. There is this evil, grinning, horny, creature that screams GO in my head every time the light turns green. I want to embarass these ricer buzz-bombers with their Maxwell House Mufflers. I want to humiliate the metrosexual pretty-boys named Hunter and Lance in their euro-trash convertibles. I want a thumbs-up FROM the American Muscle clique.
    Most of all,
    I want to win.

This is why I am always looking for more power.

Let us know what you find out about auto headlights. Two features I'll miss FROM my last car are auto headlights and rain sensing windshield wipers.

Maybe a little intake help would give the Hemi a horsepower boost.
