    SRT8 Exhaust over R/T Exhaust?

    Hey all,

been looking around but can't seem to find an answer. Is there a significant difference between the R/T exhaust and SRT8? I was thinking that I might be able to find the SRT system cheap, rather than going with a 1000+ dollar cat back system.

-Is there a decent sound difference?
    -Is there a performance difference?

    Thanks!

Well, one big difference is that the SRT headers are much better designed than the RT ones. They aren't perfect shorties but MUCH better than the RT dumps...

Other than the headers I didn't think the SRT exhaust was that much different than an RT?

The SRT is 2.75 and the R/T is 2.5 pipe I believe, The srt sounds way better at idle than the R/T. MDS sounds bad on the SRT exhaust. Flow resistriction is not a factor with the SRT exhaust.

So, the MDS system sound not withstanding, it'd be a small improvement over the R/T exhaust. Worthwhile you think to put that on my R/T if i get it basically free? Or should I just say "screw it" and get an aftermarket?

It depends on what mods you plan to do. If you only plan to do exhaust and CAI i'd say go for the SRT piece, even more if you get it for free, but go with the whole system from manifolds to cat back as it will ease the install. If you plan on more mods like cam, heads and such that's another story.

will the SRT Manifolds bolt right on, or are there fitment issues?

Both correct, and if you use the SRT manifolds you must also use the 6.1 mid pipes...

I just put SRT Headers and mid pipes, linked them to my already in place Borla. VERY pleased to say the least... You do have to place a fairly small notch in the passanger side header but certianly nothing extensive.

You can get a set of SRT Headers and Mid pipes for under $200 easily. Can probably get the exhaust for free.... IMO, the Flowmaster super 44s cat back would be the way I would go if I could do it all over again. The 44s are A LOT cheaper than most on the market and the sound is INSANE.

So spend $600 - $1000 + for a cat back alone or $200 for SRT headers, mid pipes and exhaust.... Hmmmmmm.

Like someone said above, I guess it all depends on what you plan to do later. I put in a cam and heads with the SRT headers and mids and I can't be happier.

Oh and you "probably" do have to use the SRT midpipes if you use SRT headers but Menike can work some serious magic..... So who knows

Rock on, but after the midpipes, Am I correct in thinkingthere really isnt much difference in the factory SRT pipes/suitcase/resonators, other than the pipe diameter is 2.75 over 2.5?

If anyone has the system on their car, have you dynoed before and after? I've heard about people putting too large a diamter pipe on their cars and the loss of exhaust velocity kills the torque
