    Sidewinder is in! Interesting results.....

Ok - so since having some disappointing track and dyno results with my now former setup, I completely swapped everything, and started from scratch. Since I really wasn't sure where my problem was, I decided to swap everything. First, some before and after mods:

    Before:
    AFE II CAI
    Indy Maxx Heads
    FRI Littleboy
    Mopar LT headers/HF cats
    APS 2600 converter
    B&G Stage II PCM
    Superchip flashed TCM
    SRT Cat back
    Dyno - 352hp 347 lbs/ft torque - best 1/4 mile - 13.46 (on a cool day, with good traction)

    After:
    AFE II CAI
    Mopar Performance Heads
    FRI Sidewinder
    Kooks LT Headers/HF cats
    APS 2600 Converter
B&G stage II PCM, and Mopar Performance PCM (swapped to compare)
Beta TCM (to be anounced at a later time)
Dyno - 379hp 385 lbs/ft torque - no 1/4 mile time yet. Went directly from install to dyno.

Will post charts and interesting comparisons in the next post......

This first graph shows the results of the Littleboy run vs the Sidewinder run. The Sidewinder outperformed the Littleboy in every way (much hotter temps and high humidity also). The run with the Littleboy was originally done with about 500 miles or more on the B&G flash. The Sidewinder run was done after a 1 mile ride up the block on the Mopar Performance PCM (which also grows stronger with mileage).

This next chart is a direct comparison between the Mopar Performance PCM and the B&G stage II PCM. Both runs were done immediately after resetting and installing each PCM, with no learning - and the same cooldown and temps. Incredibly they both made the exact same HP and Torque numbers! However, notice that the B&G started going lean at about 5200 rpm, where the Mopar stayed nearly perfect all the way to the end! The lean issue with the B&G was on my original dyno also, so it has nothing to do with learning. My opinion, until now, was that the injectors were maxxed out. They may still be running above their proper duty cycle, but at least the Mopar keeps it at a safe AFR.

Also, with the TCM and APS 2600 stall converter, I had no hiccups anywhere along the way. This TCM has increased stall programmed in it, to match the converter (although only up to 2600, so not sure how it would work with anything higher than that).

Mopar in Red - B&G in Blue

this might just be the engineer in me talking... but the problem could be as simple as your intake and you wouldn't know because you swapped everything at once. I know the labor is cheaper but the parts ain't free! Why not go piece by piece and narrow down the weak link?

I'd like to think that there are some bigger numbers in there somewhere - wonder if it will get better with age?

The Sidewinder is a beast, but the Compression bump from the Mopar heads has a huuuuuuge effect on power as well.I see the same results with the FRI Econo 5.7 heads with raised compression every time.On a 5.7 compression is key!

That's exactly what I think the problem was! I think the Littleboy wants that raised compression also, to perform the way it is in other cars. The only car that runs well without the compression is Meisters, but his Littleboy was ground advanced - and his car is a freak anyway......

Why even doubt FRI....they seem to make pwr and time ppl want outta their cars. Plus their Econo Heads are 1/2 the coin of Mopar Heads!

I did try two different intakes, with the same results, so I knew it wasn't the intake. To do anything else beside that, would have been tons of extra work if I was to find out it was the last thing to change. Basically, I'd have to tear down the engine 3 different times to change the cam, then the heads, then the headers. I knew the Mopar heads with the extra compression would perform better. I knew the Kooks headers would out perform the Mopars (maybe not by much, but still). And I wanted to go back to MDS, so the cam was getting swapped either way.

maybe the littleboy cam needed more compression to work best.

the sidewinder cam has surprised everyone with its power. all of the stars lined up just right when lee and steve designed that one.

I agree - which is why I bought another FRI cam! And I got the Mopar heads for a steal, otherwise I would've certainly done the FRI heads....

We overlayed my run with the owner of the shops stock SRT run. He was shocked at how much more torque this "little" cam made! On paper, I would crush his SRT.

I didn't even check it this time, as I didn't have any way of advancing it anymore anyway. When I change my plugs this weekend, I'll check it.
