    shifting vs RPM questions

Let's assume, WOT!!! for all conditions....

During shifting from 1-2, and 2-3 what does the RPM drop to? Meaning the TCM drops the RPM's to allow for a smooth shift to each gear...2800?, 3200?? I dunno for sure...Can ya help me out here?

    Stock setting....??

    Superchips tune...??

    B&G....??

    Anyone else???

Not sure what you are asking for??????????????

WOT is higher than 2800 or 3200 rpm

I run Superchips, 91 octane, higher rpm shift

The drop in rpm's is not all that much, do not really watch the tach

    Too busy watching the road................LOL

    Bob
My 1-2 shift is about 5800 rpm

My 2-3 shift is at 6100 rpm

I don't really think it drops rpm but I think it closes the TB some so you are not at WOT during the shift.

All vehicles drop rpm after the shift as a result of the higher gear. I thought you were trying to say the PCM reduced rpm prior to shift. I'm a little confused as to what you are asking.

I know nothing about shifting gears, so I have a few questions...
What is paddle hold? When yall have it in manual gear shifting, do yall let it shift by itself or is there a certain rpm range to shift in?

    RobAGD- PERFECT!!!

As you all can see the RPM's are dropping down to +/-4250 right at about 16.5 seconds into his run..... This is perfect! Exactly what I need!

Anyone else have the "stock" setting??

Here's a response I sent to Mike before I saw this and decided to toss it out here for some feedback too.

"Mine shifts right at 5500 with the SRT flash; manual, drive, leave it in 1st (my favorite) or any of the above with the no-esp engaged.

My 1-2 shift is cleaner & tighter since the SRT TCM flash. To my knowledge the rpms drop off due to the torque of the lower gear (2nd) engaging, nothing the computer does.
Check your data from the dyno and see where your HP & Torque peaks are. Ideally you want to set your shift point so you are at (or right before) your torque peak when your rpm bottoms out AFTER the shift.
I like the feel of the SRT TCM flash but I haven't really checked where the rpm bottoms out at (maybe on the way home ).
I hope the Predator gives you more shift point options so we can really nail the aforementioned torque points. Like I said I may pay them to sit mine on their dyno and custom tune that **** if it's affordable. (seperate street and strip tunes).
One other thing I see as odd in a lot of the posts (and our general thinking me included) is that Torque Converters made for drag racing actually have more slip built in so the engine is closer to the Torque and RPM peaks on launch and the shift drop isn't as severe. The built in torque management (slip) is what guys want to remove with TCM tuners like SC and the flash we just did so for acceleration purposes are we shooting ourselves in the foot???????
Although my car feels great street driving with that SRT flash I'm expecting to see slower times tomorrow night. It certainly doesn't launch like it used to even with the ESP completely off (no-esp engaged)."

My observations make any sense to you guys??

    okay....
Paddle hold is a setting within the Superchips tuner that will "HOLD" the gear (whatever gear you are in) until YOU decide you want to shift to the next gear - all the way up to the rev-limiter (about 6250RPMs-stock) and the car will "bounce" off that rev limiter and buck like a bronco!
    [for future reference]
Paddle "kick"- is when; at a certain RPM (5500-ish), the car shifts into the next gear automatically.

    Bob-
That's right on target. Now when those shifts occur, what RPM (+/-) value does the motor drop down to? (when it engages into the next gear)??

Hey Rob- you have a spreadsheet/chart (like the one above) made up that I can plug my logging numbers into as well?? I tried to do it in xcel but I suck at the graphs part of that program.

BBH did a nice little how to on xcel graphing. What you see there is my Dash Hawks graphing program. I suck at making xecl graphs look decent.
