    R/T vs SRT8 stock exhaust

    First a little background...
I just got finished installing an R/T Magnaflow cat-back. I got it used and the deal was too good to pass up, so I put aside the recent discussion about the "patina" and spent some time installing it. I love the idle and the sound when accelerating and to some extent even when cruising. What is already starting to annoy me though is the drone when the MDS kicks in. I can distinctly here it now when it does so..... I'm not sure I'll be able to live with that -especially since I use MDS a lot.
So, I'll either have to do something to the Magnaflow or come up with another solution. Which brings me to this thread topic.
If I found a used SRT8 exhaust locally what would be required to get it to fit the R/T Catalytic extensions? Is it just a matter of chopping a couple of inches of the SRT8 pipes and getting an adapter?
Does the SRT8 use the same suitcase and mufflers as the R/T or are they different? I guess I'm asking "what exactly is the differences between the two systems?"
Let's say in the long run I end up going with heads, cam, headers and midpipe on the R/T, would the SRT8 exhaust flow enough to support that?

Borla or Corsa are as good as it gets when it comes to quiet idle, noticable midrange, decent sound with MDS (barely noticable at all without cam, noticable once cam is installed) and killer WOT sound.

So why does the stock SRT8 exhaust suffer the same problem when MDS kicks in?

It was not designed to cancell out the frequencies that are greated when MDS kicks in.

I'm still not convinced that putting an SRT setup behind a 5.7 is truely wonderful idea, keeping the flow rates up with a smaller pipe compared to a bigger one might not give the results desired...

Zoomers and Corsas are the best bet in the end...

The chambers in the 5.7 resonators are designed to cancel the MDS noise. Believe it or not, engineers actually earn their money :-) The 6.1 resonators are not designed as such because they don't have to be. Any cheap (relatively speaking) exhaust also won't have provisions for it... i.e. Magnaflow, JBA. Borla is alright, Zoomers is a lot better, and Corsa is the cat's @$$ if you want gnarly sound at WOT but don't want your teeth rattled.

ok....let's say I realize that I'm not interested in the sound anymore and prefer to go "stealth". Is the stock R/T exhaust a big enough restriction that it would totally negate adding further mods to the car? For the cost of a Borla cat back I could get a JBA catted mid AND a Airhammer.
The question is though -is it worth it with a stock cat-back? I know I won't realize the full potential but how much of a hinder will the stock cat-back be?
Long term I'd like to go with heads and a cam, what about then?

If maintaining the stock suitcase and want to save some cash, I would go with high flow cats and delete the resonators. It will give you a nice SOTP bump in torque and decent sound.

I have the exact setup you aim to have. Cam/heads/headers, and running a stock SRT cat-back. My car dynoed 379 hp, 385 lbs/ft torque (this was immediately after a PCM reset also, with no time for learning & in very hot/humid weather). Since this was with a small cam (Sidewinder), it's tough to believe that the stock SRT exhaust does not flow as good as an aftermarket setup. I suppose it *might* show more with an aftermarket, but I haven't seen too many numbers that much higher than that, with a similar setup - except maybe Jonzmgnm, which is a freak! .

Except that I would be running a stock R/T exhaust vs an SRT exhaust -to get away from the drone caused by MDS as pointed out earlier....

Ah! Then if you plan to do that, you may want to consider just swapping out the suitcase with some Flowmasters. You'll get a real nice "on the throttle" tone, but will still be as quiet as stock inside the car.
