Questionable Cam wear or nothing to worry about??

Hey guys, inspecting two different aftermarket cams and seeing what I would consider odd wear patterns and I am wondering if anyone is seeing the same....especially on cams with more aggressive lobes / lift??

The wear can't be felt by the finger tip but does appear to have a slightly different texture when compared to other lobes....which is what concerns me.

The wear is observed on several lobes but not all....extent of wear varies depending on which lobe you are looking at.

When compared to my stock cam with 20K miles and the Comp 260 I pulled out with 10K, it seems extreme considering the stock cam appeared to still have nice shiny, relatively even wear patterns.

I have no idea if that's a bad thing or not. Not a professional by any means. But that's nothing like the the used cam that I got from Hemi31 with 15k miles on it too. It looked almost brand new when I got, no signs of use that I could see, especially not like that.

here are three cams. the center one is a new 6.1 cam. the left cam is the original 5.7 cam with 16,000 miles on it. the cam on the right is my custom 212 cam with 4500 miles on it. the used cams don't have any wear, only discoloring.

okay, he is going to install a used cam with unknown history? i would like to see the lifters from the motor this cam came from. maybe the original owner of this cam changed to non-MDS lifters but didn't change the retainers and the lifters turned ever so slightly. chris, make sure you use the correct retainers for the srt lifters. otherwise...

I would very much like to see the lifters.
I recently pulled a 5.7 apart. It had a crane 216 cam and new lifters installed. With a 1000 miles on the cam and lifters I noticed a funny pattern on the lifters. I didn't like the looks of it.
The owner is going to send the lifters back to the dealer to see if they can be warrentied.
The lifters had a gray pattern(each lifter different) I've seen similar patterns on roller rocker tips that are going bad. But I've not seen the same pattern on a lifter. The cam didn't show the same ware pattern as the lifter.

If you could show pictures of the lifters it may help. Please???

Well....this was the cam out of Trojans 5.7.We have no clue what the lifters looked like or whether the correct lifter retainers were used.So HemiC is going to send this cam back to me and I am going to throw it in the metal pile.

Man I'd really like to see those lifters, and especially the retainers too. Wonder if Trojan might still be able to dig them out of the scrap pile?

It'd be a shame to scrap the cam
