Performance 101 For me! Hemi Guru's Help Please.

Hey, i can't stop bragging about The SRT im getting soon, im getting a charger by the way..... and im just trying to school myself a little in performance. So if anyone can help me that would be wonderful!! But my main question is, what should i be focusing on getting for performance ... and what Brands are best .... i need info on CAI, Headers, Exhaust, Cams, etc. well CAI i have the air hammer in Mind<Good Choice?> ..... But first things first i always hear about this one product, everyone is always talking about like if its the Holy Bible .... First thing i already know what to get is The Diablo Predator. But besides that what else .... Help would be nice from all you forums members with lots of knowledge.

Starting small and working into the big bucks...

    1. AirHammer is a great choice, but I would wait until the result of the CAI mod shoot out. There are some new products coming out who might make more power than the Hammer ($350)
    2. Diablo Preditor is another good choice, be sure to get the 180 T-Stat and adjust the fans. ($375)
    3. HHP (FRI & PPP too) stage one or two cam ($450)
    4. HHP (FRI & PPP too) stage one or two heads ($2200)
    5. Mopar or Corsa Cat-back and Hi-Flow Cats ($1600)

b woody intakes are just as good in my opinion
get corsa or borla with kooks long tubes
and with diablo these would be good starting mods
400ci stroker, Vortech blower, and enough said

I think an AFEII is the very very first add on.......

    THen catback and a Diablo............

    THen a cam and re-tune..........

On a SRT8 we're talking 420 -430 rwhp depending on which dyno and yadda yadda yadda.......

You ought to call the shop and talk to Alex and he can walk you thru each step, dollars, and sometimes a purchase in "groups" saves you money.

If your going into the engine ie Cam, Heads, ported intake, TB, Maybe even a TC.

Try taking your time, I know it's not easy to do but try. LOL

Call all the vendors get a feel for each of them, It's also good to do some of your own research and get some good info/education so you really know whats what. So when you spend all that money it will be a better experience all the way around.

I do a lot of installs and have my preferences, sometimes posting personal preferences isn't always a good thing on these forums. Here are a few idea's though, PPP, Inertia, Sharadon and FRI, not necessarily in that order. As far as cams go it's good to get to know a little about how they work and what works best as far as Duration, Lift and LSA. I think most LX guys go with Kooks headers.

A 540 should be enough to start you off on your performance hunt

    first get tehse

    rdp intake
    180 tstat
    predator

    then

catback... magnaflow if you like tame for a good price
zoomers or corsa if you like medium for a rape you in the rear price
jba or slp if you want to raise the dead at a good price
plenty more.... you really have to decide waht kind of sound you want

    kooks/dynatech headers
    or
just some magnaflow high flow cats if youre not interested in long tubes

you can skip the longtubes as far as im concerned unless your going with heads and a cam....or even just a cam...

this last bit is an endeavour in itself and requires a ton of research to decide what you want...

lopey or stock sounding? gonna spray juice or blow boost? stock heads or stage 3 heads? lots of torque w/ less top end and earlier shift points or more horsies up top, with less torque down low?

then your cam sizing determines if you want(or even NEED) a stall converter, and how high to stall it.

things to consider that arent so pricey like heads/cam...

rear gears,, richmond gears has come out with 3.23's and 3.55's... big upgrades from your 3.06's.... the 323's are more streetable, and will provide a big increase in launching power.

you dont want to buy a catback its just for rich people.jk lol but really just go to the local muffler shop and ask what mufflers they can get. i got flowmasters with no res. and they use the exsisting pipe. all and all i got 260 dollors in my exaust and aftermarket tips i picked it out their and it sounds better then any catback, louder too. when i stomp on it i litterly felt the gas pettle vibrate my foot like a foot massage.lol love it. you really dont need stainless steel because that will outlast the car and regular pipe will out last 20 years if you keep the moister out of it by blowing the cobwebs out of it at least, at least once a week.

I heard that too, can't wait, but I hear that its twice the price of the current predator. Something I'm not willing to spend, but hoping its just rumors about the pricing.

regarding your comment out stainless outlasting the car ..... i disagree.
maybe in the south where you live (and i live for that matter) but many people who see snow and salt on the roads will have slow quality exhaust rust through in 2 years and less.

i also hope your one of the people who got a "true" xpipe from the factory, as some of them were welded together without having the center cutout.

youre also running 2.25" exhaust if you use the factory stuff.... the typical aftermarket exhaust for an r/t is 2.5" and liek 3" for srt... i want to say the stock SRT exhaust is 2.5", but has bottle necks of less than 2.25"

replacing the stock muffler with a new muffler is just a noise maker, more power to you if thats all you want...
replacting the catback exhaust with an aftermarket SYSTEM will net you gains of horsepower at the wheels.

I agree Headers and a CAI on a stock vehicle are a good mod. To bad there so expensive for the LXs.
