    Old School

If gaining additional horsepower was not an issue and you wanted a louder but nice sound could you not just REPLACE your current exhaust cans with Thrush mufflers?
I remember back in the day if you had a Thrush muffler you were the Cats A$$ 8) .
Granted it has been many many years since that time - ahhhh the good ol days.....

Funny you recall Thrush mufflers. I has one on my MGA back in '62. I loved the sound until one night when I drove through cottage country at about 3 AM. I was afraid I'd get arrested because of how loud the car sounded when everything was so silent. Ahh the good 'ol' days!

My brother had them on his 72 Satellite. he never welded them on, so they would whistle at wide open throttle and sound like a supercharger.

Of course, his other trick would be to shut the car off while going down the road and let the backpressure build up, and then start it up for a thunderous backfire.

His 72 Satellite Sebring Plus (318 slapstick, 360 heads, purple shaft cam, etc, etc, etc). This was right after he painted it (himself):

Police pulled me over in my '74 F100 Ranger because the exhaust popped (that 460 sure pushed hard). Luckily I was half a block away FROM Canadian Tire and I promised to go straight in for a new muffler. It was between paydays and I only had enough for a couple of clamps and a thrush. It went on quick and sounded fairly decent. I can't member the name but it was a very cool red bottle.

HEY, I had a (Petty) blue Sattllite almost like that one. My first car, a '73 I think. Boy, it been a long time. I had to go downstairs and look at the picture I have down there. Had a 360 with a crazy cam Holly double pumper and a cracked block. Still went like stink, just had to keep pouring in my Dad's drain oil to keep it FROM going dry. It had something like Thrushs on it, but they were a little more like empty cans with clamps on either end. Oh the memories......

I've got a 67 Barracuda Convertible 4 speed with a mild 360. It has TTI headers and 2.5" exhaust with Dynomax Super Turbos. It sounds pretty good, but with the top up, at certain RPMs it has an annoying drone. I don't like to take my infant son anywhere with it because of that. I'm looking for some resonators to get rid of the drone.

I also have a 69 Road Runner Convertible 440 auto. The 440 will be removed for a rebuilt 383. It had some junky, rattling Hooker headers on it when I bought it, but I'm going to a stock look, so I put some HP manifolds on it with an H pipe. The previous owner put some Flowmasters on it. It also has a drone with the top up, so it will get some resonators, too. The sound actually got a little deeper when I put the HP manifolds on.

I may put a set of those Thrush bullets on one of the cars (in addition to the existing mufflers) to see if it gets rid of the drone. Dynomax bought them out.

    good looking cars!

I bet a pair of the DynoMax Race Bullet mufflers would work well as resonators to quiet the drone down.
I'm a bit surprized that you do have a drone issue with the Super Turbo mufflers, I had them on my Cutlass with a 455 and 2.5" exhaust and they sounded great and had minimal interior noise at cruise with no drone.
With my 468, I now have the UltraFlo race mufflers and full 3" exhaust and the car is very quiet on the highway, but under WOT is loud.

WOT is fine. It's just cruising on the highway at certain RPMs that causes the drone. It's not too loud, it's just the resonance.
