Oil catch can... Help with diagnosis......

Can someone please tell me why there are water drops in my oil catch can? Also all the oil in it is milky looking. I checked my oil with dipstick and it looks fine. Is this bad???

    Well, It ain't good..............

Maybe due to humidity in your area?

Do you do a lot of short trips in the car?

Does the engine get fully warmed up?

How often do you change your oil?

That looks like 'fisheye', like theres a contaminant at the bottom of the catch can that the oil won't adhere to - probably something left in the bottom of the can during its manufacture - happens a lot when painting cars and some silicon-based material is present on the surface thats being painted.

i always ask to my self if our engines really need to be dry or actualy that oil that we are taking out from the gases are in part good. i found just unveliveble that a company that makes such a good engines make so stupid errors like thisone. they test the engines years before give the ok. i'm instaling my catch can hopholy this weekend, and that question is always giving me the headakes.
maybe yes, is gonna looks clean but we are heating a lot the engine without that oil

    what do you think guys

this is a little off topic, but ive got a dakota with 4.7l engine, and a known issue is some sort of yellowish foamy color oil, (kinda looks like the spots in the catch can above) which accumulates in the plastic oil filler tube. according to Dodge, this is not a problem, and basically what happens is the plastic filler tube condensates and mixes with the little bit of oily film inside the filler tube, i think Dodge called it emulsified oil. they claim that it occurs during short drives in cold weather.

not sure if thats whats going on with your catch can, but possibly.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I do a lot of short drives. Also wondering if my homemade cai duct the front fender may be allowing some rain in. Any suggestions on fixing that problem?

Its pretty normal, especially if you make short trips in cold weather. I bet if you unscrew the oil cap, you will have the same gunk under the cap and near the top.

I agree with the rest, looks like condensation in the can from hot exhaust gases and a cold can. If it was all milky, I'd be worried, but I don't think the drops are a problem.

Emulsion is cool... put a hole through a water jacket and spin an engine at 13,000 rpm for a while, then drain the fluid... comes out looking like butterscotch milkshake :-)

don't know, i'm sure it depends of how you drive, and the weather, a lot of aceleration in a hot weather should create gases more "oily" than my granma driving in alaska. am i right?
