Octane boost or not for race day???

Just wondering if you guys would recommend using octane boost for a single race day. I currently have the 93 oct perf tune loaded. Would this be smart? or would it just be a waste of money? thanks in advance

I would run a higher octane for a few days prior to race day and let the computer adapt. Stu from Hemi Shop seems to think 100 octane is as much as the car could really use.

i already run 93 octane since it is the highest octane offered around here and also what the diablo tune calls for. i am just not sure if adding octane boost to increase the octane rating would actually increase performance. thanks

On the weekends I go to Englishtown I'll throw a bottle in with a full tank for the 250+ mile drive down and then use GT100 at the track.

OK, let's look at a few points then. I guess first well start with:
So what is octane and why is it important?

(Courtesy of Volvospeed.com) Octane is what gives gasoline its ability to resist pre-ignition. As displacement, compression, boost, RPM, go up it becomes harder to keep the fuel mixture from igniting prematurely.
So what does this mean for us? Since our motors are notorious for pulling timing via knock retard at higher RPM's I think it would only make sense to look into using them. But there is a fine line.

If under load or high heat, you experience knock with 87 octane, stepping up to 91 octane is logical step for both performance and longevity. If you experience no knock or timing pull at 91 there is no benefit to you stepping up to 93 or higher. The additives that raise octane have less energy than the base fuel, effectively lowering the BTUs of the fuel. That is you will make the most power and have the best fuel economy with the lowest octane that is capable of preventing knock under your specific conditions.
    And how is Octane calculated?
Under the US octane rating system AKI (Anti-Knock Index) pump fuel is graded as (RON+MON)/2. Meaning if a fuel had a RON (Research Octane Number) of 96, and a MON ( Motor Octane Number) of 90 its AKI would be 93. Race fuels can be graded on any of the standards AKI, MON, RON.
They then go through reviews of the 5 top products on the market today and provide testing numbers that show they do show an increase in octane numbers. Maybe not significant numbers but enough for the motor to learn to adapt to the higher octane (thus helping in pulling less knock retard) and increasing your performance. And IMHO that's a plus.

I do the same, and I try to get the 100octane in the night before so it has time to push the remnants of the street gas out of the lines.

I dont really suggest that you use a booster to be honest, save the $$ and get some unleaded race gas in the 100-104 range.

If you have a way to log knock, make a 1/4 pass and see if you have any KR, if you dont, then dont bother running higher octane.

Buy race gas. You can find it at some local stations, or in a pinch you can get it at the track.
