    O2 sensor confusion

Ever since I swapped my 5.7 for a 6.1, my drivers side upstream (before cat) o2 sensor won't fit into the engine harness as the connector is keyed differently. Does anyone know if the left/drivers side upstream connector is different on the 5.7s and 6.1s?

Anyone with a 6.1 have a pic of their upstream drivers side o2 connector?

I'm getting P1128 'upstream o2 swapped' code... which doesn't make sense since only the right side is connected at all. I checked both my downstream o2 sensors and none of the connectors are keyed like the drivers side upstream so something seems strange here... Anyone?

why can't you use the original o2 sensor from the 5.7?

We plugged all the sensors into their original places. Thing is, the upstream passenger side fits fine, the upstream drivers side however doesn't fit into the connector. It appears to be keyed differently. It doesn't make any sense.

that does not make any sense. if you removed it for the 1/1 (drivers/front) then it should plug right back in there.

    it makes perfect sense
    the connectors vary between years

the actual pins are the same, but the keyways are different.

i ran into, and many others have run into, this issue using the O2 extensions for longtubes.

you have to take a razor blade to the Male keys on the plug.
leave the female plugs the way they are
cut the keys/tabs off the male sensor.

it will slide in and click and hold just fine.

its a royal pain in the ass, especially on the forward sensor/passenger side.
spent an hour or two alone on that one during my longtube install.

    AH HA! THANK YOU SIR!

Here is a pic of the connector that was on my 5.7L. My o2 sensor is made for this connector and therefore won't fit in the 6.1L:

I couldn't find a decent pic of the connector coming from my 6.1L, but here is a pic. If you look carefully, you can see how the top groove is not centered, but off to the side:

Ah, I understand, you swapped engine harnesses too.

Then yes, the connectors have changed over the years. You can just modify the plug, or buy the O2 for the year engine you swapped in.
