    Modified Air Intake Silencer

I removed the stock air intake silencer for my Magnum RT and modified it, I plan to reinstall it in a few days. I have the 360 Air Intakez system now, but plan to seal off the top of it and make it suck cooler air, through the modified stock inlet. As it is now, the 360 Air Intakez system is sucking in underhood air, which is very warm. It sounds good, hearing the engine sucking air, but I want it to be cool air.

The first photo is of the stock air intake with silencer attached.

The second photo is after cutting off the silencer portion.

the last photo is with the plugs installed, one is just a piece of black plastic, the other is the bottom of a beer can. I used pop rivets and RTV sealer on the edges.

I plan to reinstall it later this week. I already have the 360 Air Intakez system on the car, but it allows hot underhood air to be sucked in. It sounds good, but I want only cool air coming in, so I will use the modified air intake to do so. I will put a plate on top of the 360 Air Intakez to seal off the top, forcing it to suck air in through the modified stock intake, inside the fenderwell.

Is that the silencer or the intake with the plugs?

The photo showing the plugs, is the intake duct, the silencer part was thrown away.

Why would I put plugs in the silencer if I am not going to use it?

    Hope this clears it up.

The main result is that you are able to hear the engine breathing in the air, it makes a wonderful sound under full acceleration.

Plus it is a more direct intake, nothing to slow down the incoming air.

Sort of like the old days, when you heard a 4 barrel carb opening up the rear 2 barrels and gulping in air, when you floored the gas pedal.

The sound of the intake along with the Flowmaster mufflers is sweet music to the ears.

There are two ways to get at the silencer, FROM under the car (my way) or through the fenderwell, which requires taking off the drivers side tire.

It was written up over at

    http://www.dodgeforum.com/

Are you a member there? If not, you should be.

Doing it FROM below requires a set of car ramps, or a good jack and some jack stands.

Takes about 30 minutes - tops.

My son did mine, using car ramps.

    TonyT,

Here is how you do it.

Get a pair of ramps.... and pull the center pin out.... pull out the tabs... remove about 10 screws off the bottom kick panel.... remove ONE bolt holding it in.... 30 minutes tops... no more air resonator.

Along those lines, will post pics this weekend of my airbox mod; pulled the silencer, cut it up, used parts on the airbox...

If you go to the Dodge Forum, you can read all the replies about removing the silencer, look under:

    INSTALLING THE 360 AIR INTAKEZ

I started that discussion and asked about how to remove the silencer.

Going FROM the bottom seems easiest, but I'm concerned about the 3 fasteners. Once you pull those out you can't put them back in?

    Thanks!

My son did the work for me, he was able to reuse all the original fasteners.

Just becareful when you remove them.

Take your time and go slow.

I removed the whole thing through the wheel well, without taking off the tire. And I learned that taking off the tire would have made it eaiser. But I think the important question is this:

Hey Bob, what kind of beer was it that you used to plug that hole? :D

Performance: AirHammer, Hi-flo cats, Bassani exhaust, Predator tuned, Mopar perf springs, Hotchkis sways, BT catch can, EGR delete
