    long winded exhaust/intake question? Help!

I"m new here, but I"ve been on forums before, so I just want to clarify... I tried searching, but just came up with a bunch of items that didn't really help me out.

I want to get a new intake/exhaust on my car. It's an '06 Magnum RT with 108 miles. 100 of those miles are courtesy of my own right foot. Anyway... I'm not sure what's available, and coming from owning import branded 4 cylinders, I'm afraid of my options.
You see, with the Hondas and Toyotas, I was plagued with picking the wrong exhaust and having the dreaded pissed off bumblebee sound. I hate that sound.
The thing is, now that I've got a hemi (Hemi,HEMI?? What 's the correct way of saying it, anyway?) I want it to sound better. Not that the stock stuff doesn't sound pretty damn good accelerating onto the highway, I just want a little something more. Obviously, the Hemi badges imply that the cars got a backbone, which way should I go to give it a little more, though.
My main concerns are I want the car to still be quiet, but I like the resonance I get when it's in the garage, etc. I don't want to be heard 2 blocks away, or even one block, for that matter. If you're standing next to my car, though, and I fire it up, I'd like it to be immediately recognizable to all but the biggest dummy in the world that I've got nothing less than a V8. The stock system is as quiet as the V6 versions of the Magnum at idle.

Sorry for the ramble, I just want to make sure you all know what I want, so I can get some suggestions.

jason, do some searches on the site for exhaust opinions, helpful function. Also some sound clips.

Checkout the thread below titled "Let there be sound" good cheap mod that you are looking for

My favorite: your facts are flawed and experience sucks.....as does your attitude.

I've heard most exhaust options in person now. IMHO, the Corsa is the best. If you go JBA, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Bassani... you get a really sweet rumble and a scream at WOT, but you also have your teeth rattled on the highway. Some people don't mind it... but the resonance in the cabin is definitely pronounced. Zoomers is pretty good about keeping the resonance down while still letting 'er scream. Corsa really does it all the way though. At idle you do get a really nice rumble behind the car. At normal acceleration, it's a little louder than stock, enough to make it sound muscley (is that a word?) and less like an econoline van. Cruising on the highway, you'll forget you have an aftermarket exhaust. Put that pedal to the floor though, and your car becomes a thing possessed and lets out a holler that'll send chills up your spine. Where are you located? Find some local members and ask 'em to give you a ride around the block so you can hear some options for yourself. As far as intakes, I put Mopar's on both my RT and SRT. I like the way they look, they add a little more of a throaty sound in the front of the car to balance out the exhaust note in the back, and they make the throttle response snappier. I also picked both up used for around $200 each, so that kind of sweetened the deal. If you want to go for broke, the Airhammer is the only intake shown to yield significant power gains, and it sounds even more intense than all the rest (but only when you stomp the throttle).

Intake = AirHammer <---no question about that!

Exhaust = I have NO clue any more! *I* would say go to a local meet/greet and listen to what others' have done. *I* have the SLP Loudmouth 2...And to be perfectly honest it is too loud for the 'normal' person.

I know this reply isn't what you wanted...but the truth is, that you need to go sit inside and ride around with someone that has an exhaust you are considering....Riding around is MUCH different than just sitting in the parking lot revving the engine. Meet some new folks and enjoy the ride!

I just installed Jba High Flo Mids and a Borla Catback with the 5" tips. Its diffently loud at WOT, but I have found it to be pretty quite on the freeway, myself. Even my girlfriend has commented on it, who it sounds when accelerating and when Im just cruising.

I also was going to go with the Corsa, but, instead, used the difference between the Corsa and Borlas price to purchase the JBA Mid Pipes, glad I did.

Dude, I am just starting out w/ mine, so far I have gotten the Airhammer, which will give the average person what they are looking for sound wise. Hearing all the folks on here complain about exhaust drone has had me a little leary about doing anything to my exhaust. The Corsa's are out of my budget, I have thought about just cutting out the main muffler and adding in a set of cherry bombs, but fear it will be too loud. I get you on the exhaust from previous cars, I had a 98 DOHC neon that had a long tube header (1 7/8 primaries 3in collector) w/ a 2.5 dynamax catback and it was great tooling around the city, but highway cruising I had my toe on the trigger after an hour from the drone.

Thanks for the advice. Back when I was youger, I had a '93 Probe GT with a Borla exhaust on it. It sounded good. I'd say i'll probably go with either Borla, or the Corsi but I'll try to find someone who has one or the other to get a better idea which one.

    Thanks, Hazman
