    Injector Pulse Width recording

    I have been screwing around with the Star Mobile a bit and decided to datalog my injectors......The problem is the scale on the graph.....I am not sure what I am looking at........I believe it's a time scale but I am not familiar with it.I can see what appears to be a near static condition but would be more comfortable if I could read this better.So trying not to sound like an idiot...and I know I am going to kick myself when I find out what the scale is......what do you guys make of this?

    pulse width is usually measured in milliseconds, no? based on that scale, it'd be measuring microseconds maybe??? seems too precise for the PCM to be able to measure though.

    It does look like around 20 millisecond on time. 20000 microseconds=20 milliseconds

    What's the CAN speed (the fast side, not the cabin side)? If you're measuring microseconds, then you have to be measuring at faster than a million hertz... no? I didn't realize the sampling rate was that high.

    The CAN (closed area network) rate does NOT need to be that fast, just needs to send cached data when it updates, not an issue.

    LOL, not even goin there!!! (ME jokes are too lame to hijack Eriks thread!) I deal with CAN and LAN on our machines. 7 processors argueing over cable time, crashing constantly and still getting the job done and our speed is 1000mm/sec with a resolution of 0.1mm at all times or we fault and slam on the brakes! Its BAD if we fault and slam on the brakes! Think 60 tons of machine tearing concrete loose and jumping across the floor! Thousands of dollars in damage if this occurs.

    I think it would be easier if you could find someone with and oscilloscope.
    That Starscan tells you it is 18.9 ms but not the duty cycle. an O'scope you will be able to tell the on/off time in the period of the pulse cycle.
    Do you have any other info like RPM or any tuner type people have a table of for RPM/time of cycle?

    yeah, the scale is uS on the left side. Most PCM's calculate max injector pulsewidth based off speed and don't go past that. A lot of injectors can go to max engine RPM without problem.

    The issue is with their flow at max allowed pulsewidth. You just can't leave the injector open longer, you run out of time during the intake stroke.

    Larger injectors should not be a problem now that we have tuning. 6.1 injectors with the 5.7 should hold us over for a bit.
