I ruined by AWD RT exhaust, help me solve dilemma please

Seems a mistake here. I just added 14" offset/offset polished stainless Magnaflows to my car yesterday, no rear mufflers, just tips. Another member seemed to like this setup. I need to fix the highway drone/resonation problem. There is no way I'll be driving this car on long highway trips with kids in back!! Can you let me know anyone fixes this??? Other wise, I'm cutting my loses and buying a fully engineered Maganaflow or Borla exhaust for $600 - $650 FROM high horse performance.

    Thanks
    Mike P

I'd go with the fully engineered Borla cat back system, personally.

That would probably be my suggestion as well - assuming, of course, that the Borla systems fit the AWD RT. As I posted the other day, I've been looking in to this, and I can't find anyone at Borla who can tell me whether or not their systems will fit AWD models because they've never seen one, and I can't get anyone at DCX to tell me whether or not the RWD RT and the AWD RT stock exhaust systems are the same (implying that the the RWD Borla systems will fit the AWD's)...

Well, that was my recommendation, I think! Sorry you're not satisfied with it! I really like it, as does my wife, who grins FROM ear to ear when she drives the car. (Maybe she's just a hot rodder at heart!) I think you'd probably be happier with a set of resonators welded in where the stockers were. That would be a cheap experiment, and it would certainly quiet it down at all rpms. That's what quite a few people have done.

In our PM'ing back and forth, you brought up a good point that others may be interested in: the AWD Magnums use a shorter (numerically higher) rear gear ratio that could have placed the rpms right in a resonance zone at cruising or common speeds. That would certainly get annoying!
As a comparison, I only get a tad of resonance at ~60mph, but I'm rarely at that speed. FROM 65-80mph, my regular cruising speed, it's still at an unobtrusive volume.

Well, I ended up putting the stock rear mufflers back on the car. I'm gonna get some 4" tips to dress it up a bit. It is now very nice on highway. Growls nicely on acceleration, near silent at idle. Droning is gone. Louder than stock but not too noisy on highway. Good compromise. I'd like it a bit louder but don't want to go back to where I just was!! Gonna run with it a bit. Maybe it'll open up some once I put a few thousand miles on it. In a nutshell. Car has 2 Magnaflow polished stainless offset/offset mufflers in center of car. That's it. Good start for someone looking to get INTO a slightly louder exhaust for about $160 in parts and some labor to weld them in. Don't take my approach. I'm INTO it for a lot more.

Thanks, but I'm done playing around. Little too frustrated at this point. Car is back to tolerable now. Gonna wait till I can catch a ride in Magnaflow or Borla system equipped car.

    stop the drone

I just spent a 4 hour road trip with my 3.5 concord with cold air intake and no res exhaust yes it "drones" but i think we should remember when sound was a part of the design of the car. Also i think that the use of cruise will add to the drone.steady vacume pull etc but live with it you bought a hemi car get out and enjoy the ride!!!

    This is NOT a flame.

And we should remember when sound (in this case noise?) is not a part of the design of the car. And, why have cruise if you can't use it? Some sound and peformance without a "drone" would be the only acceptable system for ME.

I second that C4me.. if you have a zit the size of a golf ball in the middle of your forehead, you would no more live with it because of it parto f being human than you should the drone of your exhaust being part of the design of the car. We are one modifying bunch around here and there is no reason to accept it.
The drone is caused more by the amplified sympatheic vibration of the vehicles body which is triggered by the generated wave form of the pulses of the exhaust when MDS kicks INTO 4 cyl mode.
There are cures for this, they just cost a bit more money is all.

    And the dead shall walk
