    HoP Heatsink Diff cooler installed

Josh installed my diff cooler today, Its pretty much plug/play for the srt guys and the 5.7 guys will need to tap 2 holes in the rear diff cover boss's. I have no real data on the effectiveness of this diff cooler tell I hit the track and do some hot lapping.

    Looks good. Hope it works.

How much did that run you if you don't mind my asking? What do they claim are the performance benefits? I mean, how much heat iare they claiming it is supposed to be able to dissipate? Or is this still experimental?

Dude, that dang thing looks like a Star Wars prop, friggin' cool!

    Warp speed NOW Scotty!

Does the rear diff get that hot, and it apears the fluid runs into the unit??

The diff does get hot, and since this is plug/play and so cheap I had no choice.
PM me if you want one. HoP is not a vendor here and Im not a salesman. But I felt you all should no about this new piece. It's a fin type heat sink cooler and it uses no fluid. It bolts on and its fins cool with airflow and it in turn cools the diff.

Do you have a better picture of how it attaches? From that image, it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of contact area between the sink and the diff cover (granted it could very well just be the angle of the picture). But if it isn't mating with the entire cover surface, it's not going to do all that great a job of drawing the heat out of the diff. into the fins...

Really, what they need to do is make a new diff cover that has fins built into it.

Silly question? How much of that actually contacts the differential? It doesn't look like enough to dissipate much heat.It barely contacts the rear cover.A rear cover with cast in fins would work much better.

The first pic is from the rear of the car. It bolts straight to the diff and then wraps down and towards the front of the car, It hugs the diff pretty good and the fins and tunnels face forward. Until they make that cover this will have to do. It looks pretty sick from the rear. Ill get better pics tomorrow.

Erik go look at your diff cover. You'll see the 2 tapped out holes in the rear cover. It mounts to that plat which is about 1" deep and 5" wide. I got one with your name on it if you want. Cams already spoken for 1.

Definitely on the right track as it looks to be based on the same principles and mounted in the same position as the factory Mercedes AMG who have had similar aluminum finned coolers on their 210mm and 215mm rears for quite some time. Personally I would like to see more fins, creating a greater amount of area for heat dissipation but that big hunk of aluminum has to be doing something for you I would think.

Here is an AMG example for reference...

Do the LXs have the same Mercedes diff housing? I seem to remember the SRT engineers mentioning that they put the biggest gear possible in an off-the-shelf rear. Maybe we can use that Mercedes part...

Our A580 diff is basically the Benz/AMG NAG1. I'm guessing if this is not the exact same part, the Benz part fits real well.

Interested to see how much this helps. A heat sink has to do *something*. I am going back to two tranny coolers because, on road courses, I was seeing 265-degree temps. Not over the line but walking mighty close to it.

T do you know what your temps were beforehand for comparison? You have a DashHawk or something to let you read temps?
