Heat shield for air intake tube?

    Hey fellas,
I have noticed after driving my charger the air intake TUBE is really hot. I have an aftermarket dub intake. I've noticed inside the BOX, the filter and surrounding parts are not near as warm, just the tube itself. From outside the BOX the tube is Hot to touch. Would those heat shield wraps that are made for the air intake tubes be worth getting as to reduce the heat from the engine?

    Thanks

The consensus for a while was that the air is not in the tube long enough to rise in temperature at all. However, it has since been realized that the resonating, temperature, and weight properties of Carbon Fiber and other composites far surpass that of any metal or ABS plastic. Any change you would get from wrapping the intake tube would be very minimal. If you really want to effect the IAT temps buy a water/meth injection setup this will give you a boost in octane as well as cooler intake temperatures.

What is a water/meth injection setup? Is it expensive? Where would i purchase such a product?

Labonte makes the kit most people are using and you can buy it at BMC performance.

You mount the spray nozzle in your intake tube and install a pump and tank (or use your wiper fluid reservoir) and tune the injection timing for your application. It essentially sprays a water/methanol mixture into your intake.
