    Head/Cam suggestions & input

    Hey All,

If you remember a few months back, I swore off modding the Daytona anymore...wwellllllll...things change and a dedicated "fun" car is not going to happen this year but major engine mods are well within the budget so here goes.

I am definitely doing a cam AND heads along with a cat delete and shorties, (maybe long tubes)

Was going to do a Sidewinder but a certain Hemi wrench put the word to me that the Tomahawk was maybe a better choice for me.

Also looking for input on heads, looking at PPP stage 2 heads but am open to suggestions.

    Paramaters and requirements are this,

Fuel economy is not much of a concern, MDS can be eliminated, don't care, don't use it anyway. (too much autostick)

Car is a daily driver but commutes are short (4-6 miles), the occasional freeway trip is in there too. Car needs to have decent manners but can be a little rough at idle,

I will have a diablo soon so tuning should be no problem.

I don't want to do a stall converter.

Looking to be 12.9 or quicker, all motor. Preferably 12.5 or quicker.

Drag radials will be run at the track.

    OK, cut loose............

    thanks
    Mark

I think it's going to be bigger than he can use.I didn't think he wanted to do a converter.

With the stock stall I would keep the duration on the conservative side.......Sidewinder would be a sure bet, Hellfire or Tomahawk still seems to be great stage 2'ish cams (if you really need to put them in categories) but both of those would likely feel better with a converter than without.

I should be able to give you some direct comparison between the Sidewinder and Hellfire as I am moments away from diving back in for a cam change.

    Good luck.

Shhhhhhh, they could tell ya...but then they would have to kill ya. J/K

Torred1179 should be able to give you some great feedback on that cam as he has been running it probably longer than anyone.

You could always go with a custom grind through Performance Research & Design (Hemi Shop). They are also a supporting vendor and offer some great performance heads as well. I am awaiting a custom grind from them now and I have a feeling it's gonna be a great performer. To each their own tho...

As Steve said... lots to choose from... I guess it depends on exactly what u want... I would call everyone of the vendors that offer heads and cam and actually talk to them.... then make ur decision based upon what u feel most comfortable w/

Call the major vendors (PPP, Hemi Shop, HHP, and FRI) and spend some time talking to the guys that know the stuff.

We have quite a few options available. On the 5.7 a version of the SRTMax cam works very well if your willing to get rid of the MDS. Also, on heads we can do group buy pricing if 5 or more sets of heads are involved and that would save $100 a set.

Sidewinder is a very good cam from my expirence. Pair that up w/ a full exhaust, CAI, and a CMR tune and you'll be in the 12.5-12.7 range. I'm running 12.7s right now (on stock heads) and I'm just a good hook off the line from running a 12.5
