Great Question from RobAGD for the SRT team

RobAGD had an AWESOME question for the SRT engineers about spark knock retard.

Their answer was the most mocking, least professional answer I've ever seen from them. Based on the question asked, and the info presented, the response was just rude!

Unfortunately most of the well thought out and legitimate questions are answered in this way.....which is why more than a few owners could care less about the SRT chats.

I know. I'm just a dreamer. It's that BS that'll get me to buy a Mustang or a Camaro next time. Or even a Corvette. At least I can tune those. And there's a huge aftermarket, including wheels/tires/you name it. None of the half-baked crap we jury-rig as band-aid solutions to their crippling system.

While I have no intention on getting rid of my SRT this will be my last new Dodge. The new cars are supposed to be even worse than ours.
My next purchase will be a Pre-OBDII Corvette or Viper.....preferably the Viper.

Same here. I won't be buying another dodge product any time soon. Their arrogance as well as ignorance is going to cost them a fortune. May just have to modify a mustang to fit my big a** frame. LOL! I am not even considering the Challenger anymore. They can keep their can bus crap until they file bankrupcy again.

    ROFLMAO!!!!

Yeah, i here you. The Challenger was on my list, but after seeing the Camaro up close, man that thing is a beast. Also, like the idea we can tune those GM motors like nothing on this planet.

Gotta say, I feel the same way^^^. Thier response to Rob's question was uncalled for and even though this is the first chat session I've looked at, I'm not impressed.

Do they read this Forum? With SRT Chargers, SRT Magnums, SRT 300c's, and other SRT owners calling this there home, wouldnt they at least read this forum? I'm not saying interact/comment or get involved, but dont they know some of these things?

And I agree, they were disrespectful.

Ok, lets see if this works out.

Rob asked this and posted some graphs that included knock retard issues.

Ok this is concering knock and knock retard in the LX line of SRT cars.

Here is a dyno run on a warm 300c SRT with some mods.
Sorry about image size but I didnt want there to be any issues on reading the data from it.

Here is the same car on its 3rd dyno run no changes 93 octane gas Fans blowing on the front of the car and the ECT is under 200*

Looking at the retard on that, you have to wonder what its seeing as noise, there was no noticable knock or pinging during the run, we have been looking very hard into that.

Now here is another car getting dynoed and this is one a 100shot of Nitrous on a warm car ECT is under 200*

While looking at these it seems that the system is pulling a LOT of timing but its not seeing all that much from the knock sensors.

While some have insulated the sensors with washers and wraped them and we have not seen a reduction in the amount of retard we are seeing in modified cars.

Are these motors that close to the edge on timing that an increase in exhaust noise from say Headers/Intake/Cam/Heads it will start pulling timing in a protection mode when its not really seeing knock ?

These seem to be very very consertive in the timing dept from what I have been told from guys that tune cars that there could be a bit more to gain in this area.

Why does it seem that every aspect of these cars is has a "protect" from knock. Rich as heck fuel, consertive timing, quick to pull timing on a warm engine. The pistons are a known weak point even in unmodified cars, are they that much of an issue ?

Thanks for you input on this.

    -Robert

    Team SRt response was this:

That's some sweet half hertz data you got there!!!!!
    Robs response was this:

While I know its not the best sample rates, its about the best an end user on a limited budget can manage. We are trying to keep up on these cars and not blow anything up.

Trust me if I could make it out of my bosses lab with his equipment I would have a way better set of datalogs to give you.

    -Robert

They did not reply after this.
