FYI for those who have the AFE stage 2 in CA.

I recently bought an AFE Stage 2 CAI for a few reasons, like the look and the sound and I got it for a great price. I also got it because I was told that it was CARB approved but I didn't get a sticker indicating that(don't remember who told me) so I emaild AFE and this is what they said:
"as of this time the CARB approval for your vehicle is pending. As a California based company we do submit all of our intake kits to CARB for approval for use on the street. Because there are so many companies out there that manufacture air intakes systems for use on the highway, it may take some time for the bureau to get to our systems. That may very well be reason why some of our intake kits are still pending approval. When it comes time to smog your vehicle and you didn't receive a CARB sticker in our kit, you will need to contact our customer service dept @ 877-512-8111 and follow the prompts. They will have you send over a copy of the registration of your vehicle and proof of purchase for the intake kit. Once they verify that your vehicle is CARB approved they will mail the CARB sticker to the address on the registration."

Does this make any sense to you? Am I going to have to put the old air box back in when I go get smogged?

no offense, but who cares if it is CARB approved..

I passed CA smog with my AirHammer which is a better version of the AFE and my aftermarket exhaust.. My ratio was a little high, but still in spec for CA

No offense taken, that is what I wanted to know, if I was going to pass smog with it and it sounds like it will if yours did with the air hammer.

yep, as I said it read on the higher part of the scale, but still within spec..

I changed my plugs, plug wires, oil, PVC, recharged filter, and clean my TB about 2 weeks before I went for the test, because I was at 58K and that was my 60K tune-up..

not sure that it made a difference, but I know it didn't hurt..

From what I understand (which is'nt much most of the time) The car can fail the visual with Aftermarket parts that involve emmissions, such as Intakes, Cats, Headers, that aren't C.A.R.B. approved? and now i'm not sure if failing visual gets you on the gross polutors list, so this might be the reason for the C.A.R.B. stickers? feel free to humiliate, mock, and ridicule me for my stupidity,

I know what your talking about stitchmonkey, I have a friend that failed the "visual" test due to larger diameter after market exhaust pipes than stock. He has also gotten a ticket for his aftermarket CAI. He drives a mitsubishi ricer car.
