Auto mode the fans turn on low at 188, then high at 192. It seems to be set to go down to 183... I bumped mine up to 185, as in bumper to bumper, it never gets down to 183.

The fans are probably on low, you just can't hear them.

Yep, that is what will happen... do you have a Motorad 4128 in your car? I would be willing to bet that if you do, you are going to spend most of your time running around with your fans on. I can't get to 181 at all, 183 in the morning on the highway... with this mod 185 was the best I could do and still have the fans turn off occasionally.

Just a little concerned with the fans burning themselves out, although they probably wouldn't...

    If BaseTemp = X
    Fans on Low = X + 5
    Fans on High = X + 10

When Fans are on, they turn back off once they hit the BaseTemp.

You want to set the BaseTemp at ~1-2 degrees above the highest temp your t-stat can reach on the highway w/ 'cool' temps. So, for example:

My Napa 191 t-stat will maintain 183-185 on the highway when temps are cool. 185 is the highest it ever gets on the highway. So, I set BaseTemp at 186, which means the low fans come on at 191 (186+5) and high fans come on at 196 (186+10).

This is as I understand it from talking w/ Mr. NoESP many times, although there is some hysteresis effects he has built in which may vary these a bit.

I wouldn't mind one extra 'mode' which would be a 'hot day' mode which only used high fans at BaseTemp + 5 w/ no low fan mode. The reason is, I've found that on hot days, the low fans are very ineffective. As a result, the temp bounces between BaseTemp and BaseTemp+10 quite a bit.
