    Question best header/high flow combo

Im wanting to get headers and high flow cats when I get back from Iraq. Im looking for input on which will be best for performance with no MIL or codes being thrown. current setup is

    2005 300C
    Airhammer CF
    Borla 140125 cat back

will be adding BT catch can with BMC braided lines
Predator or possibly the new one from diablo... "trinity"?
    180* T-Stat

Not sure on longtube or shorties... but I will want ceramic in and out
If someone could school me on the pros and cons of LTs and shorties for an LX Id be grateful...

I am on a budget, however I have not set the cap on it yet...

I haven't heard of any perm. solution to LT's throwing MIL's so your best bet may be shorties. If I imssed the rear O2 sensor fix for LT's, someone let me know too. :-D

go with the mopar long (ok.. mid) tubes...
    best budget you can get.
they will outperform the JBA's and only cost you a hair more.
    no codes either

I would do the SRT8 headers and magnaflow high flows. About $600 for all parts and performance wise the long tubes won't gain you anything over stock unless you are planning a radical combo...

I have the JBA shorties and JBA high-flow cats, and I'm thinking for a mildly mod'd 5.7, it's probably the best/safest/cheapest bet out there.

If you are building a monster track car, then LT's might give you an edge, but if you have NY plates on your 'C' you might want to skip those - I've never thrown a code, they are damn near invisible and do a right decent job of improving airflow. The LT's stick out like a sore thumb to even the least knowledgeable emissions place, can/do/will throw codes and cost a buttload more.

Then throw some Zoomers under it and enjoy some of most mellow tunes you'll ever hear while running I-81 up to Watertown.

    I'll go for that one

There is no doubt the LT's wil flow better up top. But unless your going full bore with your motor, I haven't seen any gains worth some of the issues with LT's.

well one issue im having with my shorties is a leak between the collector and catpipe connection...
if it were a long tube i could probably have it welded up (worst case) or at least provide maintanence MUCH MUCH easier....

reaching the bolts with a socket extension is one thing....
but being able to weld and do real work on those connections is pretty much a no go.

and i dont think the evidence exists because mods vary so much for people who have done headers... and no one wants to spend 8 hours to install one, then pay for dyno time, then 8 hours to spend on installing the other headers and dyno time. your install time may vary.. but whatever.. its not an intake swap you know?

ive heard both stories from my speed shop tho.
that shorties really dont have draw backs like many think from the owner,
and one of his techs who swears up and down by long tubes and says im leaving power on the table,

who knows, i really dont... but i regret my shorties now that i got a big ol exhaust lift cam

Here 86, this will solve your leak issues. Also I suggest you use some O2 sensor safe silicon between the collector and the cat too.

I have SRT manifolds w/custom dynatech HF cats 3" and 3" zoomers.... My car runs pretty good I must say.... Would I spend the 1300 bucks on a set of headers? Nope.. its hard to justiy it when mine are doing so well.

    seen the thread cam...
its not that theyre coming loose,
they just arent sealing good anymore.
my dumbass figured id tighten the hell out of em.. and the sliding flange above the ball collector is now bent on either side from me not being able to see what i was doing while i had both my arms up there (one with a wrench holding the nut on the back, and the other turning the socket) and ended up tightening em too much.

now i think the bent flange is not giving a good seal... something about its newfound geometry ... maybe not pulling together well with the flange that is welded to the down pipe side.

    i dont know.
ive been wanting to just weld up the connection, do some race pipe style cutouts and put a cats on the branch towards the xpipe for inspection, that way i dont have to worry about swaps for inspection. (im catless now btw).

figure.. weld the **** all up, have race dumps, which, when closed will go thru some cats...

i dont know, still pondering while i build up some cash.

this silicone you speak of..... think it will help with the leakage?

IMO, save your money and get long tubes. Do it once, do it right. Even if they are a hassle to install, you'll never have to worry about "what if I went this route?". I should've saved my cash and just got some coated KooKs and been done with them.
