Average oil pressure on the 5.7L Hemi?

I took a look on my Evic today and was really surprised to find how low it was.

    - At idle right around 20 psi

    - cruising psi in the 40's

    - WOT psi in the 50's

Seemed low to me, I guess I am use to my 3800 where oil pressure is in the high 40's low 50's psi at idle.

So what is average oil pressure in these motors?

Those #'s are normal for the Hemi.

What viscosity oil are you using?

    5W20 in the charger

    5w30 in the monte

They must have alot of clearance on the bearings from the factory I take it?

Sounds OK. Mine runs about 20 PSI hot at idle and 50 cruising.
Rule of thumb is 10 PSI / 1000 RPM. Too much oil pressure is bad too.

    Uh oh!

I just learned today how to get into the EVIC service menu... and my oil pressure was at 53 at idle. (I used a K&N Gold oil filter and 5W20 oil, in case you need to know)

    What should I do?

At idle at operating temperature you should be around 20-25 psi.

    ... ?

    Right.

Like I said, what should I do?

Is this a serious problem that the dealer should look at? The oil level indicator on the dipstick reads "normal".

I don't want to insult anybody's intelligence, but I don't want you to have a problem with your ride either.

    1. Always check oil level with the car on a level surface with the engine shut down at least 5-10 minutes to allow proper 'drain-back' of the oil.
    2. The oil pressure will vary with temperature so try to check the pressure when the car is up to operating temperature.

If you have done these then something is wrong if your oil pressure is 53 psi at idle and operating temperature.

Is there an easy way to check the oil pressure if your car does not have an EVIC? I got the dreaded oil pressure light the other day and the 0520 code. My mechanic said he didn't have a way to hardline into to check the pressure.

The key here is "at operating temperature".

It can be as low as 4psi @ idle and from 25 to 110psi @ 3000rpm. Typical is 15-25psi @ idle, 50-70psi at 3000rpm. The Service Manual is a wonderful tool.

The oil pressure sending unit just above the oil filter is removed, and an analog gauge is employed, that's the procedure...
