    Anyone having this code "P0125"

For some reason, lately this code has been popping up(since the weather got cooler).
Not sure why all of a sudden though.

P0125 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Insufficient for Closed Loop Fuel Control

Anyone else having experience with this?
    Thanks
    Mike

I bet your thermo is bad. I'd suggest swapping the thermostat out for the 180 or 170 (4128 or 4127). Although, you may get an occasional code with the 4127 depending on how cold your town gets in the winter.

I went to a 170 and have gotten that one once, but like jackiert said, if that's a stocker you got something else going on.

Not hard at all to change either...

P0125-INSUFFICIENT COOLANT TEMP FOR CLOSED-LOOP FUEL CONTROL
    • When Monitored: With battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts and after engine is started.
    • Set Condition: The engine temperature does not enable closed loop. Failure time depends on start-up coolant temperature and ambient temperature. (i.e. 2 minutes for a start temp of 10°C (50°F) or up to 10 minutes for a vehicle with a start-up temp of -28°C (19°F). Two Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.
    Possible Causes
    LOW COOLANT LEVEL
    THERMOSTAT <<< most likely cause
    ECT SENSOR

I almost always have this code when it starts getting cool. I'll probably take my 170 degree thermostat out soon because I'm getting sick of seeing the light.

You have a thermostat stuck open I bet, I had the same issue last year. Car never heats up past 165 degrees or so and after a certain period of engine run time it throws the code because you haven't hit expected operating temp ... you are in PA, I would not recommend the 170 degree T-stat ... you can get away with the 180 but your feet may not get as toasty as you'd like this winter ... there is nothing wrong with the stock 195 degree unit ... be warned, if you choose to get a 180 degree you will also need to get a gasket for it from a 3rd party store, not the dealer. My advice is, run the 195 in the winter and change to the 180 in the spring ...

    just my 2 cents

    Thanks everyone

Looks like it's time to swap the Tstat.
    I will report back afterward.

Yeah, like everyone is saying change your t-stat. But don't be surprised if you trade your P0125 code for a P0128 code. Almost everyone who installs a lower t-stat gets the P0128. If you keep it in lower gears with autostick so the engine warms up faster you won't get the code. You don't have to do it for long though and don't do it right way. Let the engine warm up a bit first. Good luck. One of these days the Predator will have a way to disable the P0128 code.

    Well so much for that

So, I swapped the Tstat on Saturday with the same temp rating(winters coming).
Lo and behold the code is back this morning.
I'm not sure where to go from here.
I doubt both Tstats are bad.
    Coolant level is fine.
Not sure where the ECT sensor is located.
This seamed to happen when it was a bit chilly in the morning.

Mike it's attached to the pink terminal end you see almost dead center and to the right of the throttle body in this pic.... unplug it and reseat it and see if that does anything for you. I was getting an EGR code and I jsut unplugged and replugged and the code never came back..been 5 months now...try it, see what happens...you will not have that pink thing...the connector you are looking for goes into the sensor in block....and that sensor itself could be bad

Hmmmm... I agree about both thermos not being bad. Very unlikely. Not sure if this would make a difference, but were you sure to put that "nipple" on the thermo at the top (12 o'clock position) when you installed it?

I'll be watching to see how this works out for you.
