    Another Frankentake is ALIVE!

Finally got my new intake built and installed last night!

Thanks go out to MattRobertson for this great write-ups on how to build this monster. His instructions, web links for purchasing the parts, and pics made this the easiest mod I have done yet. Here are the links I used...

Frankentake III Group Build: Signup here

The most time consuming part was painting the tube. I first primed with Dupli-Color's Adhesion Promoter. Then I chose to use Dupli-color's Metalcast Smoke. At first I thought it was going to be a bust...it just didn't appear the color was taking. But after 5 coats and drying for 3hrs it came out nice...a very dark, smoky grey.

The most frustrating part was finding a 5/8" bit that was necked down to fit my 3/8" cordless drill. Never found that bit, so I ended up using a 5/8" wood boring bit. I really didnt think it would work but it just took a little muscle and it ripped right through the thin aluminum tube. Did a little sanding to get the burrs off and to scuff up the tube and proceeded to paint.

    Here are some pics...

Next on the agenda...painting the engine cover. I am going with Metal Specks Retro Red...adding Monkey's HEMI stainless letters and leaving the middle part grey...or putting wire mesh there..not sure yet. That is next weekend's project!!

Hah. Thats why we wouldn't paint them for the Group Build :-)

BUT for my own personal one I used Rustoleum flat black and it went on smooth as silk in a couple of coats. I did not use primer but I did take my orbital sander and go over the tube for awhile to scuff it up. The paint filled in the gaps and you'd never know I scored the snot out of the tube like I did.

Nope they aren't common. Home Depot did not have them, but Lowe's did.

Looks great! Enjoy the sound! I got lots of attention from mine when I popped the hood.

No it won't to my knowledge. But you can go to the Frankentake thread in the Knowledge Base and look at the parts sources I linked there. From there you can build your own from different elbows and tubes and such. I'd love to see someone do that and publish it as a how-to.

Yeah, I figured someone could make a new elbow for it to mount tot he smaller engines TB..my concern is more whether the 2.7 will right properly with that much air coming in.

My brother is trying to sell his Frankentake and a 2.7 guy is looking at it. that is my reason for asking.

OK I get it. An old drag racing trick is to take the intake clean off when you are at the track so you have no restriction past the throttle body.

It should be fine. But to test the theory, take the intake off and run the car around the block.
