Advice Please: Will the AirHammer give gains on a stock 05 Magnum RT 5.7

    Hey all:

Well I have been reading and reading and not sure which way to go.

I have a 2005 Magnum RT 5.7 I just purchased. I live in California and plan on staying with 87 octane and adding 91 octane once in awhile.

I am looking at the AirHammer and want to know infact will it give some HP and torq on a stock 05 Magnum 5.7

I just read a little about it having a smaller filter and that it really gives very little HP or Torq. I am looking for some HP and Torq and dont care about the looks or noise. I want performance.

I am also looking into maybe a cat-back and chip also

    Any advice would be apperciated.

Go to the Mods Face Off (MOFO) section. The AirHammer shows some nice gains, around 10 HP to the wheels. There is another intake which also shows similar gains - the rest i.e K&N etc do not show dyno gains and those were some controlled tests with the intakes on the same car on the same day etc. Also, from everything you can read, the sound of the AirHammer is second to none. Good luck and enjoy the R/T.

    EDIT: Beat to the punch.

I did read it and that is why I posted this. I saw your comment about it needing a better flowing filter and that the magnum could not take the bigger one. So they need to make the smaller one with a 1" pleat. Thanks Ken

Ahh gotcha. That comment was based on the prototype. The AirHammer that ships today is the one with the bigger filter. Gets the job done quite well.

And you'll need to move the power steering reservoir out of the way to make room. But there's full instructions included and it takes longer to read them than actually do the moving.

    Hope that helps!

It helps alot. I also wanted to say thanks for the great write-up.

Also they state that they can add another 10HP buy changing the AIT location for a extra $30.00 is that a fact do you know?

So if you have any advice for a catback and chip or programmer that would be great. I was looking into either a full cat-back system. Or removing the resonators and adding new mufflers like Magnaflow.

    Thanks Ken

As far as a catback, what are you willing to spend, and how loud do you want it? JBA is dirt cheap and will rattle the teeth out of your friggin head... Corsa is at the high end but the sound is unbeatable at WOT and it's whisper quiet at cruise... and there are a dozen others in between. Depends on your personal tastes really. I'd advise finding local members and listening to what they have installed. The cool thing about Corsa (and I'm sure a few others) is that the mufflers and resonators are a completely straight-through free-flowing design... meaning there are NO baffles inside to mess with the airflow.

There is a good bit of flow resistance in the stock cats. Consider some high flow cats.
And if the budget permits get some headers, too.

Then you'd be in a better position to use the extra air that the Air Hammer allows into the motor.
