    Upgrade Stock BA System

I have the NAV / 6 spkr Boston Acoustic system. For a stock system with no sub, its really not bad, but I'd love to add the BA sub that is an available option.

Has anyone done this? I haven't pulled the cover down from the rear dash yet, but I understand there is a plug there for the amp / sub to be connected too.

Any insight / experience woudl be helpful.

First of all... kinda funny how close our forum names are!! LOL!

I have a Mag, but I kept the stock BA system, changed to the Kicker Amp, added a 200W Alpine Mono Sub amp with a 10" single sub in a AON enclosure.

Sounds COMPLETEY DIFFERENT!!!! It's the best sounding almost stock system.

I really can't tell ya' much about the Charger BA sub connection, except the Stock BA amps are wired for a sub... but I think the 300 is the only one that uses that wiring.. and the amp knows it's not in a 300.

I'm 99% sure that the Kicker Sub ties into the rear speakers.

You'd have better luck getting one of the Pac Audio Add an Amp adapters, and going aftermarket for the sub and amp.

    Good luck Todd!

    The name similarity is funny.
I have a pair of older soundstream 10's and a kenwood mono amp (runs at 2 ohms). I dont want to take the trunk up with boxes at this point, as much as I did in the past. I really want to use something that will mount in the rear deck and run free air. I dont think the soundstreams will do that effectively.

Let me know I'm really curious to know 6 speakers to 6 speakers how much difference it makes.
Actually for a stock system with no sub I think the BA isn't half bad. It's better than the Bose system I had in my last GM car.

It's not bad at all actually. Another option is to mount an 8" sub in the rear deck where the stock sub should be. Then add an amp and tap into the rear speakers for your signal. Easy Peasy.

I did something like this to my 06 R/T. I found a stock BA 8" sub and
the stock 7 channel amp on CF's. The harness for the sub is already there
so it was all plug n play. I also swapped the rear deck speakers to the
kickers but didn't like them. They were cleaner but didn't have the same
low end the paper BA's have so I swapped back in the BA's. This was more
of a personal preference thing, some would like the Kickers better I'm sure.
If I were to add a sub to the trunk I think I'd go back to the Kickers.
They are for sale if anyone's interested.

From what I've heard from guys who've done this is it's an upgrade you
need to do in tandem with the sub. The new amp is designed to run with the
trunk subs (i.e. crossover settings) and kickers speakers and if you don't
have one/both your going to be very disappointed with the bottom end.
With the trunk sub added I hear it sounds awesome.

    Magnum??

Is the wiring for the rear sub already there?? Rear amp is it part of the sub or can you add a rear amp on the speakers..

Wiring is already there for the 8" rear deck mounted sub. This sub
is powered by the amp under the dash. The BA 6 speaker system has a
6 channel amp, the upgraded BA system has a 7 channel amp. The amps
    look virtually identical.

So if you want to add the sub you need the sub and the 7 channel amp
but the wiring is already there as long as you already had the BA system.

Edit - I have a Charger not sure if this is the same on a Magnum.

I upgraded from the BA 6 channel to the upgraded kicker amp, so the charger is already prewired for the kicker sub in the trunk so all i would need to do is get the sub and it should be plug and play??
