UConnect - Do NOT buy the Sony Ericcson P800 or P900

I'm writing this so all of you don't get burned as I did. I bought my Magnum with the built-in UConnect so that I could buy a Bluetooth phone that would work handsfree with my car. This week, I got a Sony Ericsson P800 which is a great phone/PDA. The only drawback is that it won't work with any car's factory installed (or dealer installed) bluetooth handsfree option and here's why:

In ORDER for a Bluetooth phone to work with UConnect, it has have Bluetooth v0.96 or newer installed. This fact is mentioned in the Owner's manual. What the manual doesn't state is that the Bluetooth phone has to be capable of using a "handsfree" profile. The Sony Ericsson P800 and P900 only implement the "headset" profile and therefore won't work with the Uconnect.

I was able to get my phone "paired" to the system, but could not place a call.
From the research that I have done tonight, if a phone is Bluetooth 1.1 capable, it should support the handsfree profile. The Sony does not support this profile and apparently they're not planning on adding this function.

    Moral of the Story:
If you are buying a Bluetooth phone to interact with your UConnect, make sure that it implements the "handsfree" Bluetooth profile.

I got a Sony Ericssion T608 and it works great. The phone has a cumbersome navigation menu, but works awesome with the U-Connect.

I was really excited about the P800 because of it's PDA capabilities. I'm an IT consultant who visits over 80 clients, so I needed a portable appointment book. I wanted a phone that had a built in calendar and used a stylus for text entry. The P800 is great for this. I was extremely excited that it was Bluetooth compatible, until I discovered that it won't work on with my car. Apparently the P910 (coming soon) will work with the UConnect, but that's going to be one expensive bugger.

I'm now torn between keeping the P800 and loving it's phone and PDA capabilities, but not using it with the UConnect (and wasting $300) or buying a lesser phone with out a PDA and stylus combo that works with my car. All I can say is this: D'oh!

I too was excited about the 800 or 900 phones. Guess those are out of the question.

I thought maybe about the Palm Treo 600 with a bluetooth adapter in the SD slot, but I was told that won't work either. Just FYI. So I don't think any PDA phones will work with our cars.

I got a T637 (and my friend has a T610) both Sony Ericsson phones and they work great with the Uconnect in the car. I have also heard that the Moto V600 works well and I'm waiting for the new V710 cause the Sonys are GSM and that turned out not to have the greatest coverage where I live. So I will have to go with Verizon.

When I ordered my RT, I called u-connect and they gave me a list of compatable phones. I wound up with the Motorola V600. No problems

Anybody care to comment on phone's battery life when Bluetooth is on?
I have a V600 and after I got the 300C and turned on the Bluetooth; battery would only last about 24 hrs. Turned off Bluetooth and back to days of battery. I believe the phone thinks it is always on (talk time) and talking to the car.

Bluetooth is a power sucking feature. Unless you want to turn it on whenever your driving. I bought a bigger battery FROM ebay. I hope that this will extend the time between charging.

To get a phone compatible with UConnect, I switched FROM a Motorola v60c and Verizon to a Sony Ericsson t610 and T-Mobile. Love the new phone (works fine with UConnect, except caller ID, need to CHECK the owner's manuals), but T-Mobile's coverage is spotty compared to Verizon's.

Before ditching my previous wireless setup, I bought a Motorola DC800 Bluetooth adapter ($50 shipped) for the v60c -- it gave me only the headset profile, not hands-free, and therefore was useless with UConnect. Just couldn't hold out for the high-zoot Motorola V710, so I did the ditch-and-switch.

Think I will wait for Verizon to release the 710. The phone looks pretty cool and I love Verizons call area. Probably won't ever use the phones camera or video recording but if it is compatible with my (hopefully soon to be built) car I will take one.

Has anyone had any luck going to http://www.chrysler.com/uconnect? I've tried, but it simply redirected me to the main Chrysler page. I suppose that if Chrysler put that website in their owner's manual that it should work, but then again, assumption is the mother of all screw-ups.

When I click on the link it does redirect but it also opens a new window with the uconnect information on it. You may have a pop up blocker that is not letting the additional window to open.

Interesting....I turned off my pop-up blocker and still no luck. I tried the page using Opera and it works. I wonder if something in Windows XP SP2 is blocking it. MS put a LOT more security INTO SP2.

My Nokia 6820 works well with UConnect. Also carries my appointment information which I sync between my Hp5555 and Laptop all using Bluetooth. My PDA address book will also outdial though my 6820 although I cannot get the internet service to work with the PDA through the phone. May well be me not the phone :-)

I got one of the new Motorola V710's on Friday and it works well with the uconnect. No battery level or signal strength, but the phone and caller id work well.
