I am interested in how Uconnect works. It appears that phone and voice buttons are on the rearview mirror. Do you have to press either of these buttons routinely to make or answer a call? My wife says the mirror is a stretch for her to reach.

The activation button and microphone are in the mirror. Not sure on exact operation.
Not this is not an actual phone, you need a Bluetooth enabled phone to be able to use it.
If you think the button might be inconveneint on the mirror, skip the option and have your dealer add the aftermarket uconnect. It puts the buttons on the dash.

The brochures for the jeep and magnum SHOW the Uconnect controls on a "remote" which is positioned just to the left of the nav screen. Much better than the factory standard mirror location.
I have the dealer-installed U-connect, so I want to point out that it seems to be missing some functionality of the factory-installed version:
1) Incoming calls do not SHOW the caller ID on the screen or the EVIC, which I have read the factory-installed option does.
2) The new Chrysler Owner's mag implies that you can adjust the U-Connect settings via the EVIC (stated on page 14 of the V3.1 mag issue), and the picture referenced is that of the dealer-installed control panel. I have not been able to find any settings within the EVIC. Of course, I don't know what settings they are talking about anyway.
I'm not sure that the mirror is ergonomically the best place for the factory-installed controls, but I think the dealer-installed pad on the dash looks terrible, as if it's not integrated INTO the dash design very well. I'm very picky about aftermarket accessories, though, so maybe it's just me.Originally Posted by dragon

I went ahead and ordered mine with the factory uconnect option. I'll figure it out when it gets here. Any bluetooth phone recommendations out there?

Same as dial out, you can simply enter the number on the phone and send, or hit uconnect on mirror and go through voice commands.
The aftermarket one is totally independant of other car functions. There is no integration other than muting the radio.Originally Posted by jzuras
You can look up locations, a restaurant for example, in the navigation system and tell it to call it through Uconnect, with the factory version. You can even enter your own destinations and program in a phone number.

The function I like most is when you hold the 'answer' button (on left) she says softly "Call Rejected". Back to the tunes!!Originally Posted by Kitsune
But seriouly, yes incoming phone #'s show up on the stereo screen, I don't even have the NAV, just the 6CD/MP3 player.
Anyone know how to store 'pause's in the Uconnect memory? For Voicemail and such?

I've been wondering that too, but figured I'd read the manual one more time. Still haven't though.Originally Posted by Todd RT

Sometimes I just 'speed dial' with the cell phone. Otherwise I use the 'voice' button (on the right) to shorten wait times, like:
After she says "Ready"
I say "Call" (immediately press the 'voice' button, shortens the wait)
I say "Joe Blow" or whomever I'm dialing
As soon as she begins to ask "Would you like to Call Joe Blow at Home, Work or Mobile" press the 'voice' button again, it will interrupt her and allow you to complete the call.
It would be quicker with the buttons on the steering wheel.
Later.

One other tip, you can create a destination in the Navigation radio, which you can also enter a phone number for. So you can select that saved destination through the steering wheel buttons, with about 5,000 button presses and dial the number.
But it's possible.
