    System Design/Install Help

Ok people I need some help. My little bro doesnt want his system anymore and is giving me an insane deal. So this is what I'm getting from him:
-2 x JL Audio 12w1v2 subs in box
-1 x JL Audio 250/1 monoblock sub amp
    -and wires
I'm buying a headunit from someone Clarion 935vd. I know very little about audio/video.

First question, does this amp have enough power to push the subs, it did in his truck and it sounded good, but i dont if the numbers match up.

Can i use the stock speakers too still?

What else should i add to make it sound good?

    Any other suggestions?

The speakers are rated at 150wrms max X2 300 watts, amp at 250wrms @1.5 ohms. Hmm thats pretty shady, 1.5ohms rating. trying to make the amps better than they are. Figured out that it is about 187.5wrms at 2 ohms.

    1.5 - 250
    3.0 - 125
    6.0 - 62.5
    62.5X3(to get it to 2 ohms) = 187.5

X2 for the so called 500/1 that would be 375wrms @ 2 ohms.

Hmmm JL has just dropped a notch in my recomendation list. They might as well go to "MAX" readings like the walmart "5000wrms" specials. Plus the spec rating 250wX1 @ 1.5-4 ohms. Heck it be 250wX1 @ 1.5 - 4000 ohms too, by their standards.

And then @ 11-14.5vdc Everybody else in the world uses 12.2 & 14.4vdc. So if you have everything at optimum, 1.5 ohm load @ 14.5vdc you would get the 250 wrms. Now for what you are using 2.0ohm(less power) and car regulated to 13.7(less power) = 187.5 / 14.5 = 12.93 w/vdc 12.93X13.7vdc = 177.141 @ 2 ohm @ 13.7vdc. Far from the 250w that one would think they were getting as a casual purchase.

The 500/1 would be a better match. 354wrms at real world rating would let you run the volume up to 85% max volume to get to the 300w max of the 2 speakers paralled.

food for thought----RIPS tech. from JL makes its power at any ohm load.

PS---wattage specs rarely mean jack squat----what size enclosure is being used and what type?

While numbers are all good, what really matters is how do you like it. While the JL amp you indicated is not a 1000 watt current sucking monster, it should do just fine for your application, it sounds to me. Plus you said you got a deal on it, right?!

The enclosure for the subs is critical for getting good response. JL has different enclosures for different types of sound. (ie: sealed for clean & tight, ported for lower response, etc.)

I would say install it, listen for a week or so & fine tune it. Once the amp is in, it is a very simple task to swap it for a different one, assuming they (or you) use big enough power & ground cables.

While you can use your stock speakers off the Clarion, I would recommend upgrading these components; but again, listen, and you will at that point know what you want & need more of.

Good luck & enjoy, that's what it is all about!!

Ok, I just did some more research. Initially my bro told me they're 12's and there was another amp, and we deduced that it was stolen by employees at our company. I have looked further on the internet and found out that they're 10's! So, now i think that the amp has enough power. but to make certain, i'll take pics of everything and post it here.
