    Stock single disc stereo question

I have the stock single disc from my 06'R/T......I want to use it in my winter beater.....aside from getting my hands on a factory pigtail for the rear do I have to get a factory amp to use it or will the head unit power the speakers?

Headunit should power the speakers fine as the headunits are the same between the SE,SXT,RT etc where the SE/SXT don't have the amp option and are a base 4 speaker system.. (matching headunits models of course a REF is an REF is an REF)

Watch for power though as the 12v switched ISN'T 12v in the factory deck. Aftermarket headunits need to steal 12v from the lighter etc because of this.

The radio needs the CAN signal to turn on, it doesn't just get 12V w/ the key on :-(

Eric it uses a switched neg to turn on and off with key or door open.
i'll try to find you a replacement harness from the head and build a relay for you.
    power is a straight 12v +

I'd be unstoppable if it wasnt for Physics & Law enforcement

    metra part # 71-6502-1
this will plug into the rear of your radio and then the switched red wire will be converted over to switched ground viva a relay.

You're the stereo guy... but are you SURE that you don't need a CAN module to get the unit to power on and function?? If not... hell, that's pretty sweet!!! I could swear though that people tried this years ago when the platform was new and that the radios were commanded on/off via the CAN twisted pair. For Eric's sake I hope I remember wrong!

on the amped units yes big problem-but the non amped units have a built in amp just like any after market radio does. the power for battery is straight 12 volt and the switched ign is looking for a ground just like the GM's from 03 and up to current year.
