RER: Next Generation of NAV Unit for DCX

In case there's not been any coverage here... DCX Is comming out with a new version of the NAV unit. Seems they've listened to the customer a bit, and gone out of their way w/ some pretty cool new features...

That would be cool, however, what about LOW-LEVEL OUTPUTS FOR OPTIONAL AFTER-MARKET AMPS? C'mon DCX, don't be stupid!

I would be very surprised if it isn't! There might be some issues with the steering wheel controls and/or EVIC, but I'd bet money it would work.

I agree jaak... I only know of one part of the CAN system that's changing.. They're changing out the Front Control Module.. ( CAN-C Diag ->CAN C/B Gateway )... But that shouldn't have any effect on the NAV units.. Other thing that perks my curiosity is the UConnect button... I'm wondering if the uconnect module is built in, or if it's just a duplicate of the mirror buttons ..

These items have me bewildered:
20 GB hard drive with USB port
9 GB Media Storage

So it comes with this stuff? I'm assuming that the 20GB HDD could easily be replaced with a much larger unit if you wanted...

I would think that the 20 GB HD would allow you to store MP3's for playback on unit. But, then what's the 9 GB Media Storage for? Maybe to store pictures to display on the screen? TV shows? Or maybe HD storage of maps instead of DVD's?

Anyway, yeah. I would think you could definitely swap out the 20GB drive for a larger one. You'd probably need to make an image of the drive and then put it on the bigger one... like they do for TiVo's. Plus, it depends on the type of drive. It's possible that they're cramming one of those tiny micro-drives in there like they use in MP3 players.

Anyway... it sounds very cool!

is AUDIO only. I bet you can still get an aftermarker cheaper, I saw a new pioneer with HD, NAV... and it even had RCA outs. Still be stuck with the IGN power problem.

i hope they are a direct swap. that looks pretty sweet. the nav now is pretty outdated imo and the gps function is lacking imo.

From what I read, the 20 gig HD stores data for the NAV system, and leaves 9 gig free for MP3's... The Pioneer AVIC-Z1 ( Double Din Navigation unit ) has a HD as well..

And for those talking about buying an '07 LX vehicle... There's not indication this unit will be in them. Looks like they're stick'n with the current version for the LX line for at least another year.

Again, only time will tell..

I'm not certain that the DVD capability is actually being able to read MP3's off of a DVD.. I think this function is more for DVD Audio .. ( i.e. Music recorded in DVD Audio format, or DVD Movies.. but the Audio only.. )
