Replacing interior speakers - what to go with?

Im looking to replace my 6x9s in the back deck with a nice pair of 3-way 6x9s, and throw a 6.5 woofer / tweeter component set in the front doors.......the problem Im finding is that all the 6x9s im looking at are rated 2ohm, and all the component sets are 4ohm....I was looking at the infinity kappa setup all around but it has the ohm difference between the 2 sets which means amping them would require (2) amps verses (1) 4 channel correct?

What have you guys used thats not too crazy priced......Im just looking for a wide, clear sound comparible to my Kicker upgrade I currently have, but 3x louder lol

    Kappa

If you want to stay 2 ohm

    Kappa 60.9cs
    Kappa 692.9i 6"x9"

But IMO infinity tweeters are pretty harsh.

Look at JL. They have a few different lines that I am sure will fit your budget. The TR series is their entry line. The new C2's sound phenomonal and they are just a few dollars more.

I put 3 way infinity kappas in the rear and 2 way kappas in the doors. The 6x9 kappas give you decent bass. I really consider the 3 way kappa a 2 way speaker as the crossover only has two pair of wires, not 3. So in effect the tweeter and midrange share an input. The 3 way 6x9 kappas are significantly better than the 2 way 5 1/4" 2 way kappas that I put in the doors as they have much more base. If I were doing it again, I would put in 6 x 9 kappas all around.

As far as 2 ohm vs 4 ohm goes, your head unit can driver 2 ohm speakers louder than 4 ohm speakers.

You dont have many options as we have very shallow mounted stuff. I know Infinitys fit and sound good. Pioneers have also been fitted perfectly. Front doors are what you really have to watch as anything fairly big will just stick to the window parts in there. That being said, go with Infinitys all around. Decent price and known to drop right in.

Depth problems on the front door can be remedied by a speaker spacer. We just did a 2006 Magnum today and used a 3/4" spacer and had no problems.

    $$$$$

Really comes down to how much u wanna spend. With some drop in speakers I'm not sure how much of a difference you will see. If you can, find someone who has done what you want to do and go listen to it. No sense in spending money if it's not going to sound any better. I went way overboard with my car new amps/radio/speakers/subs but that's not really an option for most people. Infinity seems to be the way to go for 2ohm direct replacements.

Well, you could go the route that I took that was pretty cost effective. I have an 05 Magnum that had the bare bones 4 speaker system and REF head unit. I decided to keep the head unit since it was all that I needed (i.e. AM/FM/CD and Aux Jack for MP3 player...dont really need anything else and it sounded pretty good).

    I installed the following:
Infinity 6x9s in the rear (4 ohm)
Infinity 6.5 in the doors (2 ohm)
Infinity 3.5 in the Dash (2 ohm)
    Alpine 4 channel Amp

I purchased everything from eBay or Craigslist...under $200 total...and now i have a Infinity 6 speaker system with a 4 channel amp. I am sure it cant compare to some of the extreme set-ups that you see here in this forum...but compared to what I previoulsy had...there is absolutely no comparison.

So here is your other option!

    1. Upgrade to the Kicker 368 Amp (MSC has this for $180).

    2. Stick with all 2 ohm speakers (dont forget the 3.5" dash speakers, if you have 'em. (4 ohms will load down the amp and reduce the output)(Kappas are GREAT!).

    3. Consider a 6" midbass in the front doors (assuming you are running the stock amp, the front doors are crossed over at about 700 Hz. This means that the tweeters in a component system will be ineffective in the front doors. This is how Chrysler/Dodge achieves bass imaging in the car.)

    Just my two cents...
