    REC NAV DVD error message

I am getting the "please insert dvd" message on my Nav unit. The disc goes in and will eject when the eject button is pressed, but there does not seem to be any attempt to read the disc.

    Any ideas?

If it's a burnt copy of the update or in-motion hack, it will only work on certain disc brands.....Verbatim is the standard.

It is the disc that worked before I took the disk out. The unit is making no attempt to read the disc, therefore the version or brand is not relavant.

Now did it stop working while the disc was in the REC or did you eject the disc and then put it back in and it stopped working??

Just trying to do a process of elimination.

mine is doing the same thing. just started last night. I took out the burned one and put in the old disc from 2006 and I still got a disc read error. WTF? Did the burned DVD damage the NAV unit? I was told that this can happen with burned discs and that it is not possible to go back to the old dvd. is this true? What has to happen to get my NAV back?

Duce does the burnt disc not work as well ??
A few weeks ago when I put the (working) burnt DVD in, everyonce in awhile I would get a disc read error. I would turn the REC off for a few seconds then back on and everything was fine. Only happened about 4-5 times awhile ago.

Duce your problem may be that your original DVD is an older version then the new DVD. My original disc was AC and new burnt disc is AF. I haven't tried the original because I've had no need to.

    tons of threads on this..

try cleaning the dvd player, use a can of compressed air and blow some short quick bursts into the unit.

if it is a burned disc, try another copy.

else the unit is going out.. it is a common problem with the REC's, especially in hot humid weather, these units don't like heat..

I am kicking myself, no it was not anything obvious. I have the full MaxCare extended warranty so the dealer replaced the entire radio for me today. Doh! Should have thought of that before.
