Anybody know the version of the unit that started using the new joystick? I thought the change happened between ********AL and ********AM, but I want to make sure. Thanks!

lol... yeah, the original ones that everybody kept breaking have been replaced with a more reliable version on the newest units. Not sure if they're the same joysticks that are available as fixes for the broken ones on ebay or if those are 3rd-party, but they did get revised... apparently DC got tired of replacing head units for people. From what I've seen it seems that the changeover was between AL and AM, but I want to make sure. I'm toying with upgrading after I get the uconnect in and don't want to hose myself by picking up a unit that's going to bust in six weeks. It's a bummer, too... there was an REC on ebay with the tv-and-nav-2-go conversion for like $900... old joystick though :-(
How would I go about figuring out which version I have?
Thanks,
Don

As far as I know, pull it and read the sticker on the back. I'm sure you can also get to a revision number through the software somehow, but I'm still looking for a unit to buy so I can't help you there.
Mine says AL on the top. (I happened to have a picture of it...)

and you have the same joystick they've always had, right?
I've never noticed a difference, but it's the one I took the picture of, then did the search to find the publicly available ALPS made one, with the shorter shaft.

Any pics of the new one? I guess no one knows if they've been retrofitted.

I can tell you for sure that the *******AM model does have a revised joystick design. That's all I got though.
What inquiring minds really want to know is...
Since there's apparently 1st design and 2nd design joysticks, are there 1st design and 2nd design knobs?
Because the original knob doesn't properly fit on the 2nd design joystick without some sort of adhesive.
I've been wanting to call the Dodge dealer to check, but haven't yet.
I have to go to my dealer today or tomorrow to pick up my bezel, so I'll see if they know. It's possible that if you get the joystick repaired by someone else they use a non-oem part.
Just purchased my Mag at the end of March, and the joystick broke a couple of weeks ago. Dealer ordered a new unit today. Not sure what the production code was, but the car is only 3 months to me.
I was at my friendly Dodge dealer the other day to pick up a new rear wiper nut cover (my 2nd - don't ask). While there I asked him about joystick knobs. Parts man sez you can't just buy a knob for these radios - gotta send the whole unit in for repair/exchange, just to get a knob. Visited another dealer on Sunday and looked at the NAV units in some of the new ones. They have the long shafts just like my original one was, not the short shaft like my replacement joystick has.
