Pics of my system (so far)

First off, I need to thank ESAD for selling me his head unit. It's awesome. My little bro had a system in his truck and I ended up buying his subs and sub amp from him. Then I got the hu from ESAD. So, me being way too excited led me to trying to install everything within hours of the UPS man giving me my package. I figured I did it years ago, i can do it now. I have never been so wrong. I have a lot more respect for you guys who know what you're doing. I had pieces of my car everywhere, was cutting this, splicing that, and i actually fried a wrench when I was tightening up the connection on the positive post. It was actually kind of cool, it shot sparks everywhere, but I bet i'll never do that again. So, i spent 5 hours trying to get this thing going before i gave up. The headunit was fine, however I had no sound. So the next day I called a bunch of audio shops that told me the reason is that the ba system is real picky, and you have to scrap the system for what I want to do, which is use the stock speakers and sub and headunit. I finally found a place and they installed it today. They used the hu to power the stock speakers an bypassed the factory amp. The bass hurts my ears, aand I like it, a lot! But i need to do something for the mids and highs, I cant hear them really, then when i turn them up they distort, so I'm going back to my new best friend tomorrow like a junky. This is going to be an expensive habit. If anyone has suggestions for me, please let me know. I just dont want any distortion. The weird thing is that they turned the subs towards the inside of the car, they said that it rattled too much.
So, as promised, here are the pics. thanks again ESAD.

You can do like I did, power the remaining 4 speakers, while using the HU to power the dash. This will basically scrap the whole stereo system. The stock doors are setup for bass, the rears I think are full range and the dash are high pass.

I am using an Alpine MRF-M345 4X75w with Alpine "S" series 6.5" & 6X9". With the BA system you should have 4 6X9s. No matter how loud I turn up the bass the bass, the rest can be heard clear. I have the HU Xover for the dash Xovered at 220hz, rears at 100hz and the sub at 80. the 80-100hz "hole" isnt noticable.

The trick to keeping distortion out is to keep the bass from hitting the smaller speakers. Check your head unit might have a crossover(Xover) for the front/rear. If not you can get some bass blockers all they are electrolytic non-polarized caps. Here is a calculator http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/crosscalc.asp. 300hz is 132.6micropharad(mf), 200 hz is 198.9mf and 100hz is 398.9mf. All you do is put the cap inline with the + side of the speaker. I have a 300hz on my dash and 100s on the doors and rears. They are left over from when I ran the system before adding the 4 channel amp. It dont hurt anything, just adds more filtering to the same cut off.

I like the sesame street, i was bumpin the wiggles earlier . . . j/k. I got the hu for 500. The sound is pretty big. This is the first time i've experienced temporary deafness, seriously. I couldnt hear for a little while, my ears were numb. That bass blocker thing is confusing, I'll talk to my audio guy tomorrow about that.

I'm tallied up at around $3K. If I had everything onhand, it would take me about 20 hours to duplicate this, lets say $50 hour labor rate that be about $1000 in labor savings. Luckily I had $0 deductable on the comprehensive when I peaked the 2 screws in the overhead DVD monitor install. But I learned a BIG lesson, headliner material squishes just enough to throw off measurements haha

Ok, I think i've become a bass-head. I just got back from the audio shop and had them put in ma audio mids. A lot of the distortion is gone, but some is still present. So, iguess an amp is next. i think that should clear all distortion from the mids and highs. The speakers are the hard kore series. This is going to get expensive REAL quick. So far, 300 for amp and subs (great deal) 500 for hu 120 installation and 280 for the mids. 1200, I guess its not too bad, but im not done. I want to be completely deaf.

yea it gets very expensive. i just dropped $900 for a set 6.5 focal components for up front. plus 400 for an amp then another 300 for rear speakers then prob another 12-1500 for the install of 2 caps 2 bottles of hypnotic backlit the amp on plexi and speakers but its all custom stuff getting done hence the high price. its like 85 an hour for anything custom oh yea then it was another 1500 when i had my box built and the overhead counsel done plus the subs and amp HU and neon. damn so yea u could say it gets expensive quick. and this is my second install on the mag.

Try facing those subs to the rear instead of the front. You'll probably at least double your output.

Actually I was wondering about this. The guys that hooked it up said that they faced it inward because it rattled way too much. I would need to dynamat it, but what and where would i dynamat? If you guys have suggestions, let me know. The bass already makes my eyes tickle. Me like a lot. I just have to wait to get some women in and ask how they like the vibration he he.
